"What do you mean? Of course we're still alive," Al says in confusion.
"Nobody ever comes back from a visit with Hectie. They are either killed or kept prisoner. You three are the first to ever return other that him or his staff. How did you do it?" Talan asks.
"Well, he couldn't kill us," Benji say blatantly.
"What do you mean?" Maddy seems as confused as Al.
"Well he asked us if we wanted to be friends with him and we didn't explode. He later admitted to attempting to kill us and asked if we wanted to work with him. Our chauffeur told us that when Hectie's most powerful spell had no affect, he saw how powerful we were and decided to let us live and team up. We didn't have a choice so we accepted his deal."
"That's impossible. Well, it was. The thought that he would spare you, even though there are other ways to kill you is weird. I don't trust it."
"Well, right now I think we should be more concerned about why you let him make us visit. If you knew that no one ever came back, then you must have thought that we wouldn't return."
"It's not like we had much of a choice. He's the god of the dead, meaning he's also our god. We're under his control and have to obey everything he tells us. If we disobeyed he would have killed us and tried killing you anyways. We aren't planning on dying again anytime soon."
"She definitely has a point, and even an idiot probably wouldn't disobey a god. Unless they actually wanted to die again, but that's different."
Al doesn't look insulted in the slightest.
"Well, since you guys are still alive we may as well have lunch and start the afternoon shift. Maddy and I didn't work this morning because Mr. Silvia wanted to talk to us."
"Just admit that you were worried, you're starting to act like a tsundere," Al nudges Talan playfully.
"We are truly a group of elite degenerates," Benji jokes as we head into HQ to get lunch.
"Oh yeah, how was your first day at your new house?"
"Well, I had a nightmare, but it was pretty good aside from that. We went and got a bunch of groceries yesterday."
"Okay good. Mr. Silvia was pretty scared that you wouldn't settle in."
We walk into the restaurant and find a table. Benji, Al, and I don't have much of an appetite after what happened in the Underworld, so we just get soup.
"So, can you tell us what happened with Hectie? Since nobody has ever returned, no one else knows about what goes on down in there."
We explain to them how Erin picked us up in a limo, Which Al and Benji rant about. They both talk about how large it was and how I was apparently acting like a rich kid by not having a big reaction to it. I continue with the story as Al and Benji try talking over me. Talan cringes when we mention the exploding spirit.
"So that's what he does to them."
"Well, he apparently tortures a lot of the others. That's what Erin told us, so we didn't ask any more questions. Hectie also said that he would be keeping tabs on us, so I'm guessing he'll be staying in contact with us."
"That sounds fine, but Guess you didn't have much of a choice."
We finish the story and eat the rest of our lunch in silence.
"Our assignment today is to find demons and kill them. It won't be a problem for us, but we should still continue to be cautious, does that sound to you guys?"
We all agree with Maddy, pay, and head out to another portal.
