There is Power in Death

Chapter 31

I wake up and jump out of bed.

"Al! Benji, we're late!"

I rush to get changed and make sure Benji and Al are getting up. We don't have time to eat or have showers so we all run to the portal  and go to HQ.

Talan and Maddy are waiting in the lobby for us.

"There you are! You're half an hour late, what happened?" Talan scolds.

"We overslept, sorry."

"Well, get your uniforms on and hurry. We have an emergency meeting in ten minutes."

"Okay. Do you think we have enough time to get a snack?"

"Fine, but hurry. We have to be there in five minutes."

"Okay, Thanks."

We go to the vending machine and each grab a snack, eating it quickly before sitting down inn the chairs that have been set up. We wait for five minutes before seeing Mr.Silvia walk onto the stage. I see Dylan in the far corner of the room, and can tell why. This boundary is pretty useful.

"Good morning everybody, I apologize for the short notice but I have a very important announcement to make. Some of you may already know this, but I have been making a way to move HQ into the living world. The other Divisions have been doing the same. The buildings are finally ready to be occupied. We will be merging with five other Divisions, and the rooms will be in a separate building. Everybody's rooms will be moved to be the exact same, but they will be on different floors. You will be receiving your keys in an hour so please stick around after this meeting concludes. In the living world, you will have to be visible unless it's your shift. There will also be more security levels and some living people will be working at the restaurant. Some Phanters will be moving.

"I would like to see Alex Seles, Benji Alenea, Talan Rose, Alegra Seles, and Maddy Frange after this meeting concludes. Now, Ms. Elodie from one of the elite Hectie group has a message."

Mr. Silvia walks off of the stage and A video appears on the wall.

"Hello all Phanters. As you all know, I am Ms. Elodie. Your superior has already told you about the moving situation, so here are all the Divisions that will be merging; The Silvia, Walf, and the Utie Divisions; The Templir and Flovie Divisions; The Romda, Kan, and Quyer Divisions. The Twendaline Division will be switching fifteen of their members with fifteen from the Silvia Division. That is all, and you all may be dismissed."

The video ends and the crowd disperses. My group heads to the stage to see Mr. Silvia. 

"You wanted to see us sir?"

"Yes. This is regarding your situation. I will not be promoting Benji or Alex when their year of apprenticeship ends."

"I can't allow that. I have come up with an idea that I will execute by myself before the day comes. I will not be revealing this plan to anyone because they would want to help, but I must do it by myself. I am sorry. These two will be getting promoted. Whether they are or not doesn't change the fact that what they saw in their visions will happen. Now, we have to get these three something to eat, so goodbye."

"Talan, wait. That is not all I called you in for. I want you to talk to Oliver. Please, he doesn't trust me."

"Yeah fine, I'll talk to the kid."

I feel the tension between them and get concerned. What happened between them? And what happened to Oliver.

Talan leads the five of us out of the room and Maddy nods to Mr. Silvia apologetically. 

"So what's going on with Oliver?" Benji asks in a concerned tone.

"He's not doing well. He hasn't left his room in a week and we don't know if he's eaten. I didn't want to worry you, but I guess it was unavoidable. I try talking to him every day, but he hasn't listened. I'm going to talk to him right now if you want to come with. He might listen to you guys."

We nod and go with him to Oliver's room. When we knock on the door, there's no answer.

"Oliver, it's Benji, Alex, and Alegra. Please talk to us. Please open your door."

"A-Alex is there? I-I'm coming. J-just wait."

We hear various locks being unlocked before he opens the door. He looks like a mess, and we immediately hug him.

"Are you okay? Tell us what's wrong."

"I-I'm scared. I don't want a-another mentor. They're a-all so mean, e-except for y-you guys."

"Come with me. I'm going to get you dinner and Maddy is going to talk to Mr. Silvia. We're going to see if Al can be you new mentor. Are you okay with that?" Benji speaks in a very soothing tone

"I-I guess if i-it's Alegra, th-then I am."

"Okay good. Now follow me. You're coming to our house. Maddy, can you meet us there?"

"Of course. I'll be on my way now."

She vanishes and I get out my portal and open it, typing in the password and going to the page with our house. I open the portal and we go through. Talan is very  quiet as we go through the door.

"Woah, this is huge!" Oliver exclaims.

"Follow us, the kitchen is up this way."

We make our way to the kitchen and Benji starts cooking. The rest of us sit down in the living room and put on a show. Benji makes breakfast fast and brings it to us.

"Can you put on the news?" Benji asks.

I don't have much interest in the show it was on so I change the channel.

"Alex Seles was in public after months of not seeing him. Photographers have provided various photos of Alex and who we assume to be his partner."

Benji turns off the TV and Talan coughs on his food.

"What was that?"

"It was the news. Apparently my reappearance is becoming popular fast."

"You are insufferable."
