37. Girlfriend?

Jane POV
I smile and the nurse opens the door for us, Ms.Green walks in and rushes to Cathy and starts asking her questions. "Mom, I'm fine." Cathy mumbles and looks towards me, "Janey." She says and I nod,

"Yeah." I say and walk over, I stand next to Ms.Green and I give Cathy a small smile. "How you feeling?" I ask and Cathy gives me a look,

"Like I was in a car accident." Cathy says and I giggle, I look at my watch. 3:00

"Shoot. I have to go pick up the kids." I say and Cathy frowns a little bit,

"W-will you come back?" Cathy asks and I nod,

"I'll bring Mae too." I say and she smiles,

"Okay." She says smiling.

"Bye Cathy." I say and she waves,

"Bye Jane." She says and I walk out.

AT SCHOOL
Mae runs up the car with Kat and Anne. "Hey kiddos." I say and Anne waves,

"Hi Mommy." Anne says and Kat smiles,

"Mommy! Guess what?!" Kat exclaims and I look at her.

"What buba?"

"I have a boyfriend!" Kat exclaims and my eyes widen,

"Kat, bubs, you can't have a boyfriend." I say and she looks at me,

"Why not?" She asks,

"You're too little."

"Anne had one-"

"No I didn't! Boys have cooties!" Anne exclaims, 

"But I like Thomas (yes I just did that) he's nice!" Kat says and I shake my head,

"No boyfriend until highschool."

"But that's like 2,000 years away!" Kat says and I give her a small smile,

"Alright. Anne and Kat I'm gonna drop you off at uncle Eddies." I say and they nod,

"Okay." They day and I smile and start driving away.

Back at the hospital
Mae holds my hand and I open the door to see Cathy mumbling something. "Mama!" Mae exclaims and Cathy looks at her,

"Mae!" Cathy says and I smile and pick up Mae. I set her down next to Cathy. "How was school?" Cathy asks and Mae smiles and doesn't go to hug Cathy like she normally does.

"Kat got a boyfriend." Mae says and Cathy looks at me and I shake my head,

"Oh really?" Cathy asks and looks back at Mae, "what's his name?" Cathy asks and I sigh and sit down in the chair next to her bed,

"Thomas Culpepper." Mae says and I sigh,

"Oh, what about you?" Cathy asks and Mae gags,

"Boys are gross! Anne says they have cooties!" Mae exclaims and I laugh,

"Okay then." Cathy says and I smile and look at her cast, "you wanna sign it?" She asks and I shake my head. "You sure? Don't want to sign it with a bunch of hearts all over your name like you did in high school when I broke my other arm?" Cathy asks and I blush,

"Sh-shut up." I say and she laughs, I smile and Cathys mom walks in.

"Hi Nana!" Mae exclaims and Ms.Green waves,

"Hi Mae. You're coming home with me." Ms.Green says and Mae nods, she carefully hugs Cathy and Cathy kisses her head.

"Bye Mama." Mae says and Ms.Green help Mae off the bed and Cathy waves,

"Bye Mae-Mae." Cathy says and her and Ms.Green walk out. "Jane? Can I tell you something?" She asks and I nod, she smiles and makes a come here motion, I stand up and she moves over. "Sit." She says and I laugh and sit down next to her.

"What am I? A dog?" I ask and she shakes her head, "what do you want to tell me?"

"Y-y'know how you asked me to be your girlfriend?" She asks and I frown a little and nod, "I-I really really like you Janey-"

"But you don't want to be my girlfriend and I g-"

"I did some thinking and I-I want to be with you. I want to call you my girlfriend, I want to be able to kiss you in front of people and even though I know that I'm not good enough for you I still want to be with you." Cathy says and I smile, "d-do you still want to be-"

"Yeah." I say and she smiles, I peck her lips quickly and she blushes. "I wanna sign your cast." I say and she laughs, I lean over and pull out a permanent marker out of my bag.

Janey

I write and put a bunch of hearts all around my name. "Oh just like in high school." Cathy says and I nod,

"Yep." I say and she smiles, she yawns and I giggle. "Tired?" I ask and she nods,

"Yeah." She says and I lay down, she smiles and lays in my arms. "Night Janey." She mumbles and closes her eyes, I start drawing patterns on her shoulder and she smiles.

"Night Cathy." I say and she smiles.

No ones POV
And for the first time in 10 years, both Cathy and Jane slept peacefully. No waking up in the middle of night because they were cold, no kids going to wake them up, just Jane and Cathy.

Random Fact: I watching pitch perfect and when Ben Platt came on the screen I said "Evan Evan Evan" and then my cat yelled and I was like "I know you like Dear Evan Hansen you don't have to tell me"
