This is set at the youngest days of humanity. Small villages were just begining to be formed and communities we're taking place. Weapons were primitive and supernaturals were not known to exist.
However, an alternate species was known to exist. That is, monsters existed.
Monsters ran free over the earth, terrorizing and eating humans that were unable to defend themselves. Monsters came in many different shapes with many different abilities. Some could use magic, others could. Some could fly, some were humanoid, some were animalistic. When speaking of monsters there was no set form. One would always come to mind though, that would be the original monster. The Queen of Monsters. Avina.

Despite her young face, monsters have been running at large for at least five years and are thought to have existed for nearly twenty years. No one knows where Avina came from and very few have seen her and lived to tell the tale.
Humans were dying off and messengers were sent out to try to form a treaty with the Queen of Monsters. She was benevolent that day and agreed. Five towns were founded by her, built and protected by magic. Good crops were promised and the monsters would leave the towns alone. All good things come with a price.
Avina rotated through the towns. Once a year she would arrive at one of the five and demand a sacrifice. Sometimes, if the humans had offended her in some way, she would demand multiple. The price of living in these safe havens was the possiblity of loosing your life. Many felt it was worth the risk.
Scene option one: This year it was your towns turn for a sacrifice. The sacrifice was always chosen at random by the draw of a name. This year it was your name that was drawn. Your name was called out and felt heavy on the air. You were to be given to the monsters. No one ever returned. No one ever survived.
The crowd parted to make way for you to leave the town where you would be tied to the pole where all sacrifices were left to be sure they didn't run away. Do you go willingly, fight, or something else?
Scene option two: You belong to one of the villages however you occasionally sneak past the wall that protects you and make your way into the forest. Recently when following the hunting party you heard the sound of fighting and hid. Once the voices passed you went to see what had occured.
You came upon a monster (you choose if it is Oriel or Adriji). They had been severely wounded by the humans but we're left alive, bleeding on the forest floor. Their silver blood stained the earth, sparkling in the light.
Their eyes landed on you but held no malice or anger. You had been told your entire life that monsters were evil, unable to feel anything but rage and hunger. That couldn't be true, here was one that looked at your with sadness and fear. "Please... Help me." Their voice was barely louder than a whisper. What do you do?
Scene option three: Offer one. There's so many possibilities in this world!

Avina, Queen of Monsters. She is cold and always gets what she wants be it through force or fear. She has a soft spot for children and if you take a second look you may see that cold hearted attitude doesn't match the protective care she uses to rule over her monsters.

Oriel is one of the Queens Advisors and closest friends. If very prideful and a talented hunter. The skull she wears is of the strongest beast in the monster realm. She is only one of two hunters to have ever slain it. If you can earn her respect she is a wonderful and protective person to have around. To gain her anger would likely lead to pain or death.
She has no arms but rather many smoke like spires that can be controlled as a group or individually. She is 6'2. The dappled skip continues on her face with webbing black patterns extending from the corner of her eyes.
She has the ability to use magic but knows very little.

Adriji. The opposite of what you would expect from a beast looking like him. He tends to be quiet and calm as well as kind hearted. He is formal to everyone and hardly ever opens up. However showing him any sort of affection can cause him to fluster and be unsure of himself. He's very sweet and loves to make others smile and laugh. He serves the queen as an eye on the towns to make sure they aren't plotting against her or breaking the rule of sacrifices.
