Master sets down the box
and folds his legs as he sits.
He drapes his hair to one shoulder,
giving me more room to perch on.
"The Jiardin is so beautiful."
Master's gentle tone breaks the silence.
I can feel the vibrations of his voice
as I remain upon his shoulder.
It gives me chills.
In a good way.
"I agree.
The garden does look rather abundant today."
I link.
"Perhaps it is because your twenty-first is coming up?"
Master's face reddens again.
"Nonsense."
he blurts out, flabbergasted.
"Is this why you were flustered this morning?
Your twenty-first."
It is worth noting that truth
is very important to the Virideian folk.
You can rarely find a decent liar amongst them.
✾
Master's face and demeanor tells all.
He fiddles with his sleeves
before resigning with a sigh.
"Yes...that is the reason..."
Master's eyes dart away in embarrassment.
"But why?"
"Because...of the flowers..."
he looks to me with eyes that say
'Please don't laugh at me'.
"I don't find it funny, Master.
I just don't understand your worry."
He looks to me
then to the garden.
"It's...rather embarrassing...
having people do things to celebrate me..."
My eyes twinkle in amusement.
"Master, have you forgotten?
You are the prince."
He hears the playful tone in my voice and
turns to me with an equally playful "betrayed" face.
"Oh, quiet, you!"
he retorts childishly.
We both share mirth at how silly we were.
