ZELDA’S PERSPECTIVE-
We tack up Storm and Epona, ready to leave Kakariko Village almost immediately. I look over at Link, who is already gazing at me. His face lights up when he sees me looking at him, and I look away again, head down towards the stirrups, where I make sure it will support my foot correctly, before clambering onto Storm. He whips his head as I climb onto him. “Oh! Sorry, Storm!” I say, realising that I must’ve pulled on his gorgeous, creamy mane of thick, coarse hair. I stroke where I pulled, trying to calm him down and let him know that I’m sorry. I reach into my pack, which is tied across my belt, and bring out a ripe, juicy apple. I hold it out, leaning across the saddle, for Storm to eat. He takes it quickly, and leans his head down and gobbles it up. I grin.
“Thinking of me, are we?” Link says with a flirtatious smirk. My mouth hangs open with shock at his blunt words. I shake my head.
“I- Uh-” I start to say, not being able to find the words. “Not every time I smile means I’m thinking about you.” I finally manage to say, returning the smirk that Link gave me earlier.
His face falls, “So you don’t smile when you think of me?” He says, pretending to look offended.
I grin at him, “Well...That depends what I’m thinking abo-” I stop, realising what that sentence just meant. Oh Hylia, why did that sound so wrong?? I didn't mean it like that-
I turn to face Link, my face blushing more than ever, turning the scarlet shade of blood red. He laughs, “Oh, in the name of Hylia, spare me the details...of your...weird..thoughts.” Link says, voice trailing off as he frowns at me. I raise an eyebrow, and he winks. He actually has the nerve to wink at me right now?? I’ve just embarrassed myself and he winks at me??!~•°∆°•~
We ride across the vast open world surrounding us, seeming like tiny specks of dirt in the huge sea of grass and trees. Link looks around, his instincts kicking in to try and spot any danger. He lets out a sigh of relief, and I smile at him. Arriving at a bridge, which has a large split in the middle of it, I groan and take out the Sheikah Slate from my belt. There’s no way we can get across that. I open it up, and it beeps loudly. The dark blue screen shows the Sheikah tribe logo on the abnormal screen, and then flicks to a large map of Hyrule. I scroll my finger along the screen, zooming in on our location. “We’re here.” I say to Link, gesturing for him to come closer to me and he looks over my shoulder at the Sheikah Slate, and where I'm pointing to. “We’re travelling to Hateno Village, right?” I ask, looking up from the Slate to gaze at him.
He nods, “Yeah.” and scowls at the Sheikah Slate’s dark screen, trying to focus on the route we must take to get there. He points down a large, winding path, leading to the East through the Necluda region, and right to Hateno Village. I nod as I see the route, and we turn around, forcing Storm and Epona into a slow trot as we take the path to the left, which will lead us to where we need to be.~•°∆°•~
Finally nearing Hateno Village, we walk past some small forests, which reside at either side of the path we’re travelling along. Suddenly, a scream rips across the forest to our left as we near the arched entrance of Hateno Village. Link immediately stops Epona in her tracks, and leaps off the brown horse, sword unsheathed and ready to protect him. He moves towards the woods, and I see a flash of red. Red? What’s entirely red here?? I then see a flash of a dark blue-green colour. My eyes widen as I hear an ungodly wailing sound. The two strange creatures are pelting towards Link, who looks so tiny next to them. The creatures grunt weirdly, their large, pointed ears twitch as they hear the sounds of the forest around them. I see the source of the scream almost immediately, as a woman comes running towards me. Her arms are flapping around her head in fear, and she runs past me, shield and the large pack on her back, clanging as she runs away. She doesn’t look back. Link will be fine. He’ll be just fine…
I get down off Storm, carefully walking closer to Link. He’s trying to jab at the goblin-like creatures. Oh! That’s what they are!! Bokoblins!! Wait..shouldn’t they be gone too?? If Ganon isn’t around, his stupid creatures shouldn’t be around either! What is going on?? Is Ganon still alive?
I push the terrifying thought to the back of my mind, closing the door and locking it up till later. If there was a later. No!! Shut up, Zelda, don’t think like that.
Link continuously tries to hit the Bokoblins, and they dodge every attack. I sigh. I will not use my powers. I can’t use my powers - they don’t work.
Link suddenly gets shoved backwards, and the blue-green Bokoblin lands a hit across Link’s leg with his large wooden club. I yell, “No! Link!!” and run over to where he lays on the floor, clutching his leg. It looks ok - not broken, at least - but he’s grimacing in pain, so it must’ve hurt. I crouch down onto the ground beside him, and place a hand on his shoulder. “Are you ok?!” I ask, stressing out if Link cannot fight anymore. He nods, and tries to stand up. He falls back to the ground with a hard thump. I panic. Suddenly, I see the red Bokoblin lunge at me, bony arms outstretched, trying to grab me. I dodge the lunge, and the Bokoblin lands face first in the mud behind me. I try to hide my laugh, but it escapes my lips before I can stop it. I reach for Link’s sword, which is on the floor at the side of him, untouched. The weight of it pulls me down into a hunched position, and I feel beads of sweat dripping down my face as I ready myself to lift the sword past my ankle. Hylia, Link must be strong. He makes this look so easy. I look down at him to see him smirking at me. Nice to know he’s still just as full of it when he’s injured. I stick my middle finger up at him, joking around and rolling my eyes. Then I realise that we’re not alone, and that I have to fight. I manage to eventually lift the sword up over my shoulder, staggering back with the weight of it. I take a deep breath and plunge the sword deep into the red Bokoblins back. I sigh, relieved that it’s now dead, unmoving in the pile of mud. I turn to face the blue Bokoblin, and take a deeper breath. This one is obviously slightly more powerful than the red one, as it is more strongly built, and has a rough wooden shield as well as a club. I scowl at it, and lift the sword once again over my shoulder, before swinging it down onto the Bokoblin. I hear the awful crack of sword against bone, and the Bokoblin crumples to the floor, writhing in agony, before it lies still and I drop the sword to the ground. I slump to the floor and put my head in my hands. I don’t realise that the tears are streaming down my face until they’re flooding me. Trapping me. Secluding me on an island surrounded by my fears. The tears have drowned my hopes and dreams, never to be seen again. All that is left is a sea of drowning sadness. All I can do is try to stay afloat.
