Asgore didn't look at me as his pained eyes looked strained. "It's going downhill a while ago, but the problems where manageable. It started with Gaster's worries." his body begins to slouch as he looks at the floor. "Gaster's concern with me delaying the experiment for so long. I just don't want you guys to get hurt, I thought we would be able to free our kind without harming you guys, if I had known we had to sacrifice you guys I wouldn't have even moderately considered this experiments. I've given Gaster so much time to figure out another way, I gave him an apprentice so maybe she will give us a fresher point of view, to have new ideas to try out. But it hasn't worked either, she seems just as lost as we do." he takes a deep breath "We had a fight the other days about what we should do, we've always disagreed but we always come to a truce and a mid point. That day he seemed so different from the day I first met him, the day we first worked together. He was willing to sacrifice lives to achieve his goal, it was just monstrous. We'd prove to the humans that we indeed are monsters."

I feel bad for Asgore as he speaks 'So a portion of his sadness is because of us.' i look at the floor as well. I feel a furry hand on my shoulder.

Looking over my shoulder I see him smiling at me. "I know you have been on the same boat as me on that problem. I know you want to protect your friends, I want to as well." he puts his hand on my other shoulder and pulls me into a side hug. I pat his hand kindly and he lets go and continues talking. "Then Chara disappears. After that fight with Gaster I wasn't alright in the head, then the following morning my daughter and son are missing. I figured they woke up early and left to play else where but I was a bit unsettled. Just to figure out they had fused and went to the over world, and came back dead." his voice broke as he said the last part, leaning into his knees as his hands held his face, tears falling out of his eyes. "What was I supposed to do?" he cried further "They were already dead, Alphys tried healing them but it was already too late. Despite my sudden doubt on Gaster I asked for his help as well, but nothing worked. They're gone, they've left my life." more tears poured out of his eyes. I started crying as well, I hugged him tightly to comfort him. He turned and held me tightly. "Then Toriel left as well." he cried even harder.

"But knowing that both of you are going through the same situation why would your wife leave you?" I ask, growing angered at Toriel without having met the woman.

"She didn't leave because of what happened to the kids. And I don't judge her for leaving, she had a good reason." he starts, I was about to disagree but he cuts me off before I could say anything. "She didn't leave because of the kids' death. She didn't know of you guys. Gaster had asked me to keep it a secret from the others, you guys were a confidential experiment. But Gaster accidentally mentioned it in front of her. She confronted me about it, I told her I was contributing to our kingdom. Probably the wrong choice of words, I should have just told her everything. I should have told her I wasn't going to sacrifice you guys. She cussed me out for starting a war with humans by holding some hostage. Which isn't wrong. What if the humans killed my children because I kept you guys here?" he let go off the hug and holds my shoulders. "What if I did start a war. What would happen to my kingdom?"

I hug him tightly again "I don't think that was the reason for them attacking your children." I whisper to him. "Everybody down here didn't have someone in the surface that truly cared for them besides the others in this group. We were actually running away when we ended up here. We wanted to live in a empty area, so I went into the woods that were on a mountain, once I found it I told the rest about it and came back. That's when I fell. Then a couple of days later they fell in too. It was pretty funny. But if they didn't care then, they care less now." I let go and give him a reassuring look. "So it wasn't you, they probably got scared." He smiles, his pained eyes a bit swollen. "But your wife did wrong leaving you alone at this time, you're both suffering. And despite it being a good reason for me and doesn't make sense why it would be a good reason for her." I watch Asgore tilt his head. "I as in my point of view and her point of view. In my point of view, as a human, I'd be like 'So you are holding my kind agaisn't their will? How dare you? Good bye. But she is a monster, she should be all like 'Oh my king is looking after his people what a noble man, I love him so much." you say mimicking voices, to see if it would cheer him up. He chuckles at your impressions.

"Yeah, but she doesn't like violence, which I appreciate. She as a mother understands that if you were to be dead another mother would be in pain, the same pain she is in right now." he whispers, the tears coming to a stop. After a moment of comfortable silence Asgore speaks again, his voice no longer breaking "You know what servile marriage is right?" he looks over at me.

"Forced marriage?" I say looking up at him, hand on chin. He nods "You were forced to marry her?" I ask a bit saddened, did he not want this marriage?

"Not long ago, when I was 16, my father passed away. I was the king in action, which meant I was a prince but had reign over the kingdom as a king. Sadly the kingdom couldn't run without a king, so I had to marry. My right hand man told me any woman I mentioned would be my bride and the future queen. I only knew one woman that would fit that description, it was the maids daughter, Toriel. She took care of the infants in the castle of parents who where too busy working to tend to their kids. I always adored her then. But when I mentioned her name, she was sad. It meant she wouldn't be able to tend to the kids no more, and instead have responsibilities like me. I tried to make her happy, but she wanted to work with the kids. So when I was twenty, I gave her a kid. She was happy then, she was finally working with kids again. Couple months later a teenager falls, we took care of her as well. Three weeks later, we find you and your friends."he smiles. "Gaster promised me freedom, I was naive and agreed. I thought everything was going great, things couldn't be more perfect. But they were running wrongly all along." he stands up then picks me up in his arms and hugs me tightly. "Thank you for listening, I will do things right. My way from now on. I'll see that you're free and next to me. I need someone like you in this kingdom, someone that I can share my problems to."

Alright guys, listen. The way things went about are a bit different. The kingdom has been underground for 400 years, BUT Asgore wasn't in reign during those years, it was his father.

Asgore is on his mid twenties actually, he had kids really young so um he is just starting his life. I just don't want a big age gap between you and Asgore but still have the normal story rolling.
