As my mom dropped me off, I laughed out loud before running up and playfully punching Trevor and Abella in the shoulders. Trevor jumped back in shock while Abella yelped, turning around and slapping me softly in my arm, causing my grin to grow even wider.
"You didn't tell me you'd two be here." I accused.
Trevor shrugged, a smirk grabbing his face and Abella started laughing. We all exchanged memes until a person in a brown suit walked to the podium on a stage. We all did a once-over of this newcomer, taking in her brown hair, chubbiness, and brown eyes.
"Hello everyone! Who here is excited to be here?" She chimed out, the microphone on her face amplifying her voice over all the chatting teens.
A few cheers bloomed, but wilted away quickly. After a few awkward seconds, the woman spoke again.
"Alright! My name is Ms. Jinx, and welcome to the Maze of Trees!"
More cheers bloomed at that, since that's why most people bothered to come. Either it was a dare, or they just wanted to, they were forced to, or by the looks of it, most just wanted to be with crush's, spy on ex's, and all that fun stuff.
"Ok! The rules are simple. You and your team will start at one end of the forest, and your goal is to make it to the other side alive!" A few alarmed questions rose at that. Their wasn't anything dangerous in the forest, was there? "If you succeed, then you get to go home! The teams are..." She started to list the people in each team, where they grouped together in nervous huddles.
I glanced nervously at my two friends. We all huddled together and whispered worriedly together, praying that we would get put on the same teams. Sadly, our prayers weren't answered. Trevor got put on a team with a bunch of jocks, Abella got put on a team of sassy girls, and I got put on a team with a jock, a rich kid, some guy that looked like he could hunt, and then Emily. We stood glaring at each other.
"Dang, you guys already hate each other? Come on, if we are going to survive, then we need to at least be ok with each other." The hunter groaned, leaning on the rich kid's shoulder, ignoring his muttering about personal space.
I sighed and reached a hand.
"Truce for now?" I asked, staring right into her blue eyes.
She hesitated before shaking my hand with one finger, pulling it away as fast as it appeared, as if I was ill.
"Ok... my name is Bendis. What's your guy's?" Hunter kid said, his voice booming out from his mass of black hair, which hung down in bangs to cover his eyes.
"I'm Darian." The rich kid said, his voice already snobby. He and Emily would get along well, both of them had sleek blonde hair, and both had blue-ish gray eyes.
"I'm Emily, and this idiot over here is Asco." Emily sneered, turning a wicked eye at me.
I mentally flipped her blonde curls off and turned back to the stage, where Ms. Jinx was still reading out group numbers. Suddenly, the doors to the maze opened up, and every concern melted together as a big and shadowy wolf lurked inside the camp.
