Chapter 10

Hello? I called out, before crying in alarm as I felt the creature fall over, going to sleep.
Help? A girls voice echoed back.
I took a step, or tried to, as five floating orbs of gray came up to me. I looked down in shock to see I had become an orb too.
Destroy. Another growled.
No. One cried.
Pathetic. Another hissed.
Hope? One whispered.
Escape. I responded, making all of them go silent.
Not possible. She's gone...
It's waking up....
Not again...
Suddenly, all sense went away, and only the thoughts remained.
Kill them.
No.
Why not?
Friends.
Hope?
Escape? Not possible... right?
We looked at the door, then back down to the people.
People?
Friends!
Kill...?
No.
Save?
Save!
Why?
They caused this...
Mercy?
...
Maybe.
We stopped and stared down at the friends? They seemed to be confused and scared. We wonder why they won't attack. Everyone else did. She did. We fell asleep, and planned to not wake until the next group of people. 
    The floating orbs came back, but this time, they seemed to talk better.
Who are you?
Asco Martin.
Why'd you fuse? You could be safe...
I want to set you free.
You can't.
Why not?

The emptiness around us erupted into color as one of the other orbs showed us a memory of a family, Von's family, and they were hoping to have enough money to get his sister her birthday present. Then it changed to seeing a wolf like Lefu, but they had no name. Then, the wolf with no name tried to kill Von, but Von was fused to fast and the wolf didn't get a chance.
    One of the orbs turned into a little boy with a huge cat by his side, clearly his guide. Von I realized, looked in sadness at the rest of us before leaving. From outside, we heard sounds of surprise from the people.
How did he leave?
He realized why he was here.
Can I try?
Sure.
The darkness erupted into color again as we saw a boy, saying goodbye to his brothers and sisters as he went to The Maze of Trees, a happy and fun camp!. Then, we saw a huge creature, a Lost, staring down at us, ready to kill us. We all realized the Lost was Von. Phobos stared up at Von, terrified. Phobos's guide, a mechanical bat, transformed them just in time to fuse so they didn't die.
    Another orb changed into a girl, Phobos, and her huge bat. They nodded in thanks to the rest of us before leaving, and again the shouts of surprise and happiness roared.
Why are you helping us Asco?
Because I don't want you all to be trapped.... And I don't want my friends to die.
Hah. That makes sense.
The room filled once again, and this time we saw a blank and dirty wall. Lyssa stared down at her bruises before looking up at her drunk dad, rage filling every bone in her body. Enough had been enough, and she ran away, before finding a huge camp, where she started to live. Then, Ms. Jinx forced her to join the maze, and eventually, Lyssa and her leather dog were fused into the Lost.
    Another orb changed, showing Lyssa and her small leather dog. She smiled and waved, and unlike the others, who had remained silent, the guide let out a bark before disappearing outside.
It's only me and you now.
Do you want to go first?
No, you go ahead...
But... what will happen to you Asco?
...Don't worry...
The room filled as we saw a small table with very little food. Perdita looked up and thanked her mom and dad with a small smile for the food, even though there was so little and she was very hungry. They smiled warily at her before talking to each other in hushed whispers. Perdita knew they were poor, and she may be taken away, but she stayed silent. Eventually, her mom and dad sent her away to a camp while they tried to get more jobs. However, Perdita and her mouse guide fused with the Lost.
    The last other orb turned into a little girl, her mouse guide resting on her shoulder. She gave a small and sad smile before leaving, and I was alone.
