Chapter 2: La Push

Early in the morning, I left to my new driving adventure. My parents had left the house to work. They didn't want to make a bad impression by not going right away. It actually allowed me to head out of the house like my dad had suggested the day before. I took my keys and began driving down the road and into the beach reservations. I wasn't sure where I was going, but I knew I wouldn't be lost. If I did, I would just ask for help or directions.

The rain made it almost impossible to drive, but it wasn't as hard as before. Most people I saw out driving just stared at my car. I guessed people here didn't have such extravagant cars. Crap, another thing to make me stand out. This wasn't going very well for me. I came close to a beach, but I wasn't sure what beach it was. I drove close to a parking spot and got out of the car. I noticed two other cars close by, a white van and a small Toyota. I looked around to check if there was anyone around. I could see a couple of kids around my age walking around the beach having a bomb fire. I didn't even bother to come close to them.

I tighten my rain jacket and closed the car door. I walked on to the sand. The only reason I felt so comfortable was the sand and the beach. It made me feel like I was back home, but not completed. It was good enough for me. Walking down the sand, I tried to stay close enough to the road. A couple of times I did catch some of the kids staring at me. I turned to them, but just walked away from them. I was in no need of making friends with anyone right now. I did noticed one of the girls and boys come right behind me. They called out for me and I stopped to turn around.

"Hi, I'm Jessica," the girl told me. She was as short as I was. Her child like face almost confused me. I didn't really believe she was my age anymore. She had dimples and a small smile on her face. She had brown eyes and brown straight hair going up to her shoulders. "And this is Mike," she pointed out to the young boy or man standing next to her.

"Hi," he said.

"Hey," I replied shyly.

He looked at me carefully, almost analyzing me. I wasn't sure what he was really doing. I stared back at him. Mike had dirty blonde short hair. His eyes were dark brown. He was thin, but muscular.

"Are you new here? You seem sort of lost," Jessica asked.

"I moved in yesterday," I confessed.

"That's nice. Are you going to school at Forks High School?" Mike asked right away.

"I am not. I graduated from high school back home about a week ago. But I'm guessing you two go to Forks High School," I told them.

Mike stood still with his hands in his pockets.

Jessica giggled. "It's the only well known high school most kids go to. But we graduated about a three weeks ago as well. What school do you plan on going to in the fall?"

"University of Washington," I replied.

"Same here. I guess we'll be seeing you there. We are going to attend that school as well. We start in the fall. It will be nice having you there," Mike told me with a big child like smile on his face.

"I hope so," I told them.

"Don't worry, you'll get use to it right away," Jessica informed me. She sighed. "Would you like to join us? We could introduce you to some friends of ours. They'll be going to school with us. It would be good to have people you know before you attend school."

"Sure," I said following both of them.

We reached four other kids surrounding a fire. Jessica was the first to speak. "This is...sorry, I didn't really ask your name."
