Chapter 3: Strangers

"What's for breakfast?" I could hear my mom ask my dad from the kitchen. I walked down the stairs and as slow as possible. I knew it would be a long and dragging day. I walked pass the mirror my mom had hung on the back of the door. I saw my reflection perfectly. My hair was pulled up into a ponytail. I didn't want to over do it. I wore a light black jacket that was old. I've never had the chance to wear it. The jeans I wore were the only new ones I had with me. I was wearing black sneakers because they were the only ones I had unpacked since I had moved here.

Entering the kitchen, I was attacked by my mom. She gave me a kiss on the forehead and ran out the door.

"What's wrong with her?" I asked my dad as I placed the beige colored bag on a chair.

"She just got a call from the hospital. She needs to be there early to meet the doctor who will be showing her around. Your mom is very excited to start her job."

"Really? I thought she didn't want to move here," I reminded him.

"She thought about it and gave it a chance. You should too," he suggested.

"I'm trying."

He kissed my forehead. "That's my girl."

I smiled at him and stared at the way my mom had decorated the kitchen. She kept it the way it had been when we got here. The cabinets all wooden and the same sort of new, sort of old kitchen and refrigerator. I walked over to the fridge and opened it. I took a bottled of orange juice and drank it. I closed the door and noticed my mom had place pictures on the door. Most of them from family vacations, when I was fourteen. I'm not big on going places with my parents right now.

"Want some breakfast? I made eggs and bacon. Your favorite," he suggested.

"Thanks but no thanks dad. I have to go and get to town. I don't want to get lost and I'm meeting some friends there," I told him grabbing my messenger from the chair.

He walked over to me. "Have a nice day, honey."

"I'll try," I repeated, cold. My plan for the day involved meeting up with Angela and Jessica so they could show me around town. We would go to a movie in Port Angeles later that day. They had agreed that showing me around was best and at this point, I was ready to try anything at all to get me to like this place.

"Your mom and I wont be back until eight tonight. I'll leave you something for dinner."

"Don't worry about it. Just go to work already. I can cook you know."

He nodded and we both walked out of the house, where for once in the past week, wasn't raining.

I began to drive off around the corner from my house when I recieved a text message. I parked my car by the corner and opened my phone. I got a message from Angela saying she was stuck home with visiting family, and Jessica had orientation for U of W. I replied that we could go out some other time.

I felt dissapointment in having a planned day and now the plans were done. I had no intention on going back home, I would be stuck home alone. I thought for a second and decided to fufill the promise I had made to another new friend. I turned my car around and headed for La Push.

It was colder around La Push and much harder to move around. I couldn't find same beach I had been at. They all looked the same. I decided to drive away from the beach and find the rode I had come from. As I drove off, I finally saw someone standing outside of their house. I drove closer and noticed it was a woman sweeping her porch. I remembered Jacob had told me that La Push was a small reservation. I thought there was a possibility she would know who he was and where he would be. I got out of my car and she noticed me walking towards her.
