Chapter 4: New Beginnings
Jacob continued to walk away from the house, and I just followed him close by. I couldn't forget Emily, Sam, and Leah's reaction to me but I tried to.
"What do you want to do?" Jacob asked distracting me. He looked calm from everyone else's reaction so I decided to ignore it all together.
"I thought we were just walking. Isn't that the plan?" I reminded him as I tried to move back towards my car.
He walked towards trying to mimick my moves. "I just said that to avoid any other conversation with the pack."
I turned back to him. "The pack?"
"Yes," he managed to say, "my group of friends."
"I get it but that's weird to be called a pack," I explained. I just leaned against my car feeling the sudden silence. We just stared at each other, but I managed to look away.
"Green eyes?" he whispered. It caught me off guard.
"Excuse me?"
He shook his head. "I barely noticed you have green eyes. I like them."
I let out small laugh. "Thanks. And I'll let you in on a secret of mine."
He walked over and leaned against my car. He waited for my answer.
"I like brown eyes," I confessed.
He laughed, a low, husky laugh that put a smile on my face. "Thanks," he said.
"A compliment for a compliment," I said looking away and into the woods.
Jacob caught on to me being distracted so he walked infront of me. "How about if I take you to explore La Push?"
"Sounds good to me but where to exactly?" I asked as I stood away from my car.
"Let's make that a surprise."
"Okay but do we need to walk or we can take my car," I suggested.
He laughed. "I have my own way of transportation but you have to come with."
"You better be a safe driver," I joked and I managed to get another laugh out him. Everytime he laughed, the more the memory of being in Forks seemed to be forgotten. It was just me and Jacob.
He raised his eyebrow and said, "How do you feel about motorcycles?"
He did catch me off guard, but I thought more about what were my chances of finding something else to do rather than my own safety on a motorcycle. "I'll take my chances," I said.
"We're going to have to go to my house, that's where my bike is. You can leave your car there if you'd like," he suggested.
I nodded in agreement. We both got in my car and Jacob gave me easy to follow directions to get to his house which wasn't far from Emily and Sam's home. During the five minute drive I noticed Jacob looking at me and then out the window. He was trapped in his thoughts. I didn't speak. One thing I have learned in my seventeen years was to let a person be and not bother them.
"You can just leave your car infront," he finally said after arriving. I did as he said and got out of the car. "Wait here, I need to make sure my dad doesn't see or he'll be pretty mad."
"Okay, I'll just stay," I responded. He walked around the small house and I waited. I just took the time to breath in and absorb my surrondings. It was quiter than I had expected. It was all woods from side to side. It was too much green for my liking but still beautiful.
I turned around as I heard someone approaching me. Jacob was walking trying to drag his bike with him. He was extra quiet so I did the same. I didn't want him to get in trouble because of me.
