Bumblestar POV

At least he wasn't very hard to find, with the screaming, snarling, and death threats echoing across the stone hollow.

In other words, I found Nightkit arguing with Redkit behind the warriors den. Redkit's voice was raised to a shrill screech while Nightkit's was a deep, angry growl. I was uncertain as to what they were fighting over, but Nightkit's emerald green eyes were smoldering with fury.

"...should kill you for your questionable actions and your parentage..." Redkit was saying.

"No!" Nightkit spat, unsheathing his claws. "I am more loyal to Bumblestar than you are, KITTYPET!"

Redkit must've insulted him. She probably had questioned his loyalty to me, something Nightkit seemed to take very personally.

Redkit smirked. "My parents were rogues, not filthy kittypets. And at least my mother wasn't Blossomfall."

Nightkit's neck fur bristled. "Blossomfall is DEAD! She can rot in the Dark Forest for all I care."

Nightkit leapt at Redkit with forepaws outstretched. I would've loved to watch the skirmish, but unfortunately, I had to intervene. I couldn't have my two most promising kits tear each other apart. Especially not when I had a very important mission for one of them.

I stepped in between them. "Save your claws for the ShadowClan scum."

Nightkit immediately dropped into a respectful, submissive posture. "Yes, sir, we're sorry."

"Will you fight for me?" I looked him right in the eye.

He met my gaze steadily. "Of course, Bumblestar."

I nodded in approval, pleased with his lack of hesitation. "Very well, then. I have a small task for you, Nightkit. Redkit, you are dismissed."

Redkit rolled her eyes and padded off towards the fresh-kill pile. "You're gonna have to call me Redpaw soon, Nightkit."

Nightkit let out an angry hiss and I shot Redkit a warning look. Redkit glanced away sheepishly, then nodded quickly and scampered off.

"Nightkit, Fawnkit and Shadekit are traitors," I told the kit.

Nightkit chuckled. "I know Shadekit is. He's a soft-hearted, cowardly fool. He's not a strong, brave warrior like you are."

I narrowed my eyes. "Fawnkit and Shadekit are planning to run off to ShadowClan. ThunderClan has no place for those who are not loyal to me. They must be punished. I can handle Shadekit. I have...plans for him. But I'd like you to help me properly deal with Fawnkit."

Nightkit's eyes widened eagerly. "How can I help you? I would be honored, Bumblestar! Thank you! I will prove myself to you, I promise. I am a loyal warrior of ThunderClan! I am nothing like my mother! She is dead to me, I wi..."

"I believe you, Nightkit," I whispered. "I'm trusting you. I am putting a lot of faith in you."

"What is..."

"Your mission is to pretend to be Shadekit and tell her you're leaving for ShadowClan now. If she doesn't go with you, although I doubt that'll happen, do nothing. But if she agrees..."

"If she agrees then what, Bumblestar?"

"Cats like her must be disposed of. Take her out into the forest and when there's no cat in sight, kill her."
