The car was full of laughter because of a joke Derrick had told. The laughter lasted till they got 'there'. Than all was silent in the car. So many happy memories floated around and then they turned bitter to them all. They all once lived here. Bitter, happy, and sad memories flew by. Dustin scowled at the street where his parents taught him to ride a bike, where his friends bought him a skateboard. Also once the houses of his friends. All of their houses had a FOR SALE or SOLD sign in the middle of each lawn. That brought tears to Dustin's eyes but he managed to hold them back.

As one small house went by small tears stared to streak down Liz's pale face. The house was small, but not too small. It looked comfy small that a small family of maybe three could live there. The walls were a light brown and the windows were clean and had blinds to cover the inside. The roof was a deep blue and it matched the house color quiet fine. It was a one story house and it looked a bit worn down.

Then Dustin looked at Derrick. Derrick scowled at a house that was once one of Dustin's friends. The neighborhood brought up so many dead and forgotten memories it hurt. Some good, some bad, and some sad. Next they drove by the park. It was completely empty though it always was full. A memory from there popped its way into Dustin's already crazed mind. It was him and his friends swinging on the brand new swing set and going down the shining slides. As fast as the memory came it disappeared out of mind. Everything turned the mood that was an upbeat one down. The sky was grey, no kids were out and playing, no people were out for a jog or walk, not a stray cat or dog was seen wandering the streets, the sun was hardly visible behind the thick grey clouds, and everything was too quiet. "This is depressing don't ya think?" Derrick mumbled to himself but everyone seemed to hear him.

"It's like they all know something bad is going to happen..." Dustin said staring out into the lonely and depressed looking neighborhood. "They probably do know Dustin." Liz whispered, the tears on her face quit falling but she was sniffling quietly. Dustin's house came into view and every passing second they got closer the tension got heavier until it was unbearable. "Ready little man?" Derrick asked cautiously eyeing Liz. "Yeah, I'm ready." Dustin said bravely though he certainly didn't feel that way. "This better work... If not I'll kill you Derrick." Liz growled deeply at Derrick, spitting his name out with a bit of venom. It still surprised Dustin how mean she could get because she was always happy and upbeat around him. "Liz if you kill him you might never get me back." Dustin cringed at the thought of staying with his parents once more all his life.

"Be brave bud, two days we'll be back." Liz said sweetly but scowled at Derrick before putting on a brittle smile. The car slowed to a stop about a block away from Dustin's old house and he got out. "Bye guys, see you in two days." Dustin waved and slowly started to walk towards what he used to call 'home'. Derrick's car drove away. Dustin took a deep breath and continued to his destination. The blinds of some houses opened showing people gasping and having shocked expressions written among their faces. Dustin looked and waved at one of the people who were gasping whose eyes got bigger as if they had seen a ghost. Two little boys that were sitting on the fence nearby leading to the back yard immediately stopped as he walked by and just stared at him.

Every person in the neighborhood was staring at him from their houses or backyards. Dustin waved to some but they never waved back to him. He finally got to his house front door. He sighed before walking in and closing it behind him.
