The next day they returned to school, Jean and Eren did all the annoying things normal couple did - holding hands in the hallway, and giving each other kisses just to get used to it - which felt weird, because they were 'supposed to' hate each other. Meanwhile, Jean still wasn't ready to tell Eren that nobody had insulted either of them through social media, and the notifications he received the other day were from a stupid game that he played. Yes, it was true that he had set it all up. He was sure that Eren wouldn't have accepted if he just asked him out out of the blue, so he had to make up some kind of trade-off.
Throughout the day, they got a lot of surprised looks - mostly from close friends. However, they played it off well. It wasn't until lunchtime did Eren ask to see the 'insults' from the other day; purely out of curiosity and wanting to know who exactly it was that would talk about him.
Jean rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly, and leaned in to whisper to the brunet - primarily because they were sitting at the same table as many of their friends. "There were no insults," He shrugged innocently, before focusing down at his lunch plate in an intense matter, pretending to eat the disgusting slice of pizza.
Eren was dumbfounded. "Excuse me? No insults..?" It took him a while to process it through his brain, but he soon understood why Jean did what he did. "You set me up, didn't you?" It's not that he was angry, necessarily, he was just curious at why Jean had tricked him into believing that his reputation had taken a hit.
Jean's mouth was full with the bite he had taken out of the pizza. "Mhfggg.." He replied, pretending to be inaudible - even though the bite had taken was merely a small bite and did not even manage to stuff up his mouth. Afterwards; he took a swig of the milk, just for more convincing, dramatic effect.
"You ass," Eren retorted; although one could tell by the look in his eyes that he was simply teasing the taller boy. "Cut that out." He continued, swatting Jean's arm and nearly causing him to spill all of the milk onto his shirt. "You set me up because you weren't sure if I would agree to be your boyfriend without any consequences, right?"
"Oui," Jean set the bottle of milk down - not even bothering to yell at Eren for hitting his arm. "It worked, didn't it?" He stared at the green-eyed boy with a cocky smirk.
Eren narrowed his eyes right back at the other male. "I didn't know you were French." He took a bite of his own pizza, wiping his mouth with a napkin promptly afterwards. "Yes, it obviously worked, Kirschtein." He rolled his eyes, sighing a bit. "Although you know I would've probably agreed to it if you hadn't set something up, anyway."
"Probably. You said probably. Probably usually means 'no.'" Jean retorted, turning to the side and persuading Armin to throw his trash away before spinning back around to face his - now - boyfriend. "And, yes, my mom is French."
"Don't talk back to me," Eren held up a hand in front of Jean's face, and focused on finishing up his own slice of pizza. "Probably would've meant 'yes' in that case." He rolled his eyes at the sight of Armin throwing away Jean's trash - the poor blond was always being taken advantage of by that horseface. "Lazy much?" The brunet grumbled, before getting up and throwing his own tray away.
"I would've gotten you to do it, buuuut you would've probably punched me in the face." The cocky smirk remained on Jean's face, and he leaned back with a sense of satisfaction.
Eren returned back to his seat within a few seconds. He opened his mouth to make a smart-ass comment towards Jean, but was interrupted by the bell ringing - signifying the end of their specific lunch period. "Oh, look... You were saved by the bell, Jean." He couldn't help but smile a bit at his own joke - true, he was somewhat of a dork.
