Prologue :

The wind whipped around the witches face as she casted her spell. Daniela stood in a circle as light enveloped her skin, the spell weaved through the air and into the blue ring she wore. It wasn't long before the air around Daniela slowed to a stop. " So this will keep me from burning once I walk in the sun?" Daniela asked. The witch nodded. " This is a favor, and you know that if you do anything wrong I can take the power away from the ring." She told Daniela. Daniela nodded. " I'll be sure to remember that." The witch turned to walk away, and as she did Daniela appeared in front of her. " Quick question, do you have to be alive for the spell to stay?" The witch laughed, " No young one, as long as I don't reverse the spell, I can die and it will hold strong." Daniela smiled, " Good to know." She said and before the witch could react, she reached forward and tore her heart from her chest. The witch fell to the ground lifeless as Daniela stood over her. She then drank from the slowly beating heart and smiled. " For an old chick, you taste pretty good." And with that, she turned and vanished into the night.

"But father, I didn't think about it. Her lips... I ... I'm sorry." Raven Chance spoke. Her father, the Alpha of one of the strongest wolf packs around for miles was angry with his daughter. He had found her kissing another girl in the woods not that far from the pack house. " Raven, you are my daughter and that means you have Alpha blood in you. You have 6 years before you are able to find your mate and he will take over my position as Alpha." Raven was only 10 and wasn't expecting to get in so much trouble. It also angered her that her father would make another male the Alpha instead of her, but it was tradition that a male inherit the pack, even if the true heir is a girl. She cried out in anger, and stormed over to her room. She had had enough of it and wanted to sleep.

Somewhere far away, Maxwell sat at a table with his mother. " Look here, it's tradition... your grandmother was one, I am one and so are you." He looked at her with a serious face. Anytime his mother spoke of his grandmother, he knew he had to listen because it was important. " You are what most people would call a witch. This isn't some joke or game, and you'll have to take it serious or you could end up..." She choked back tears as she spoke. " You could end up hurt, and I couldn't take that. In the next coming months, there will be things I'm going to teach you and you will learn about yourself and our history. This will benefit your future and protect you." He nodded, this wasn't a game and he wasn't about to joke around about it.

"I'm not going to mate with a stranger! I don't even want a mate!" Raven screamed. "YOU WILL MATE WITH HIM!" Her father yelled back, his voice thundering over her. He had arranged a marriage with a smaller pack, the boy chosen had skills and with the right training could make an amazing Alpha. Ravens pitch black hair spilled across her chocolate covered face. Tears brimming in her eyes, she tried to think of a way to make him see. " Father, I refuse and you shouldn't make me." She told him. " I told you ... YOU WILL LISTEN TO ME!" His alpha tone silencing her. He sent her to her room and refused to say anything else. Up in her room, she screamed into her pillow. This wasn't happening, he was not going to make her mate with some strange boy. She had to get away, and she knew that it had to be now or she would never get the courage to do it again. She began packing, and hid what she was going to take in her closet. Later on she then crept into her fathers quarters, and found him sleeping. She found his credit card, and snuck back to her room. Now came the hard part, she had to get away. Their was always patrol who could smell her scent once she stepped out the door. She then thought of a plan. With her baggage in tow, she walked up to the patrol men. " My father, the alpha wanted me to inform you that I am to be escorted to the borderline to meet my mate." The patrol men nodded, it was plausible that she was going to go see her mate, and with all the gossip going around it made the patrol believe her. She was then escorted to the outskirts and soon she was out of view. She knew that she had to take money out of the credit card quick, and dispose of it so her father couldn't track her. Pulling out as much as she could, she stuffed her suitcase and disappeared into the night, this would be her first night as a rouge.

" Concentrate, the better your focus, the stronger you are. " Maxwells mother said as fire circled around him. He was already 16, and he had learned so much. His abilities came in early and his mother had been his key teacher. He was amazingly powerful for a witch his age and his mother always told him that he could potentially be the strongest in their blood line. He willed the fire to rise, and it did his bidding. Soon, he closed his eyes and as quickly as the fire rose, it died out. " Good job." His mother congratulated him. She closed her grimoire and they both went upstairs. Suddenly, his mother was on her knees, and it seemed she was in pain. As soon as Maxwell helped her up, she looked okay. " What was that?" He asked her. She smiled, and brushed it off. " It was nothing, but can you do me a favor and go to be store to buy me some things?" He nodded, and grabbed his bike and left. His mind was racing, he was a witch who could only get stronger. He was a servant of nature, who had to keep balance. Getting the things on the list was easy and it wasn't long before he had made his way back home. On his way back, something hit his bike and sent him spiraling to the ground. He turned just in time to see a girl who's eyes were purple and had a devilish smile. She then vanished before apologizing. Looking out in the direction of his house, he found it ablaze. He screamed and ran toward his home. " Mom ! Mom!" He screamed entering the blazing house. He found his mother battered and bloody on the floor. He closed his eyes, and the fire around her disappeared. " Son, I don't have long and I knew that this was coming. I won't make It through but I know you will. I left you our family grimoire and a letter with some instructions. Now GO!" She said before giving him a quick kiss on the forehead. Tears stained his cheeks as he grabbed what he needed and broke out into the night.
