shen yue stared at the tablet on her hands with a frown, her fingers scrolling across the screen as her eyes rapidly scanning through all the photos and comments. shaking her head in disbelief, her lips slowly quirked into a wry smile. he's finally done it. wang hedi, really. is this really okay?
she exhaled and put down the tablet beside her on the couch. turning towards a framed picture on her living room wall, a wistful look took over her face.
how is he coping with all this? is he doing okay? should i? no, i shouldnt. i havent spoken to him in ages, it would be weird ... wouldn't it?once upon a time, they had been inseparable, constantly sending messages and memes to each other thoroughout each day, with the routine phone calls at the end of the night. back then, she would be the first person he'd call when something like this happened. and she would be calling him right away without even bothering to read through the articles.
but now ... she exhaled and closed her eyes, whispering to the empty room. "are we still? ... friends?"
she jerked her eyes open and berated herself out loud. "of course we are! what are you talking about, stupid yueyue!"
she pushed herself off the couch, grabbed her phone from the table and walked towards the window. before her overthinking brain could stop her with all the what ifs, she quickly dialed his number and gazed at the sky while it rang.
at the 7th ring she was ready to hang up, but right as she moved the phone away from her ear to tap the red button she heard a click of someone picking up.
"hello?"
shit. I shouldnt have called! what do i say?!
"hello? yueyue?"
he still has my number saved! okay thats a good sign right?
"helloooo? if this is a prank, i will report you to the authorit- ..."
"hey, di ..."
"oh. yueyue. it IS you ..."
he let his words trailed off and her mind scrambled for something to say before they descend into awkward silence.
"yeah. i mean, this IS my number, you know."
she heard a soft snort on the other line before didi's voice filled her ear once again.
"well, you never know. those crazy sasaengs may have hacked your phone. or stolen it. or knowing how forgetful you are, you may have forgotten your phone somewhere public."
and just like that, she felt herself relaxed and smiled at her reflection on the glass in front of her.
"i am NOT forgetful, Di. fans were tailing us that time and in the commotion, I ACCIDENTALLY dropped my phone. if anything, it was all YOUR fault it happened."
"oh is that so? do tell how is you losing your phone MY fault?"
was that a smirk in his voice she heard?
she felt her lips quirking even higher and before she knew it, she heard herself affecting the tone she hasn't used with anyone for a long time.
"YOU suddenly pulled me and ran! of course i'm gonna stumble. do you realize how long your legs are? and how short mine are!"
she heard him chuckled, and she had to bit her lips from laughing along with him.
"so you admit that your legs are short now, eh? my my, how times have changed you, miss moon."
"i never said they're not short! but you don't have to make fun of them all the time either!"
didi was laughing in earnest now and yueyue found herself running her fingertips on the grinning face reflected back at her. the eyes staring back at her were sparkling with glee and she wondered why her own reflection felt like a stranger's.
