"yeah okay. stop talking non-sense and hurry eat!"

"SHEN YUE, GO ON A DATE WITH ME."

"oh wow you ARE serious."

"oh wow what gave it away? me repeating the same thing 3 times?"

"shut up, Di."

"so? tomorrow night?"

"what? no. i'm not gonna go on a date with you."

"why not?"

"because."

"that's not an answer."

"i can't."

"okay, so friday night?"

"that's not what i meant! why do you suddenly wanna go out with me anyway?"

"is it? sudden? or are you just slow on the uptake? as usual?"

"WANG HEDI!"

"so friday night? it's a yes?"

"you don't wanna date me, Di."

"i'm pretty sure I do."

"i'm demanding."

"this is true. you are."

"i'm loud."

"pretty sure I got you beat in that department."

"hmmm that isn't inaccurate."

"what else you got?"

"i eat A LOT."

"Ouch. it's like all the meal times we have spent together meant NOTHING to you. my appetite and I feel so unseen."

"oh right. that one was a bad reason."

"they are ALL bad reasons. i don't know why we're doing this actually."

"Add bossy to the list then."

"shut up. only I get to say things like that about me."

"ANYWAY, i am picky."

"lucky for you, i am the cream of the crop. only the best for you, right babe?"

"YOU ARE INCORRIGIBLE."

"which is why you should just stop this nonsense already. friday night at 8 yeah?"

"i would make a bad girlfriend"

"whoa whoa WHOAH. who said anything about boyfriend and girlfriend?!?!?! it's just one date. don't go naming our babies just yet, SHEN YUE."

"oh. OH. well, that was embarassing. see, i'm an embarassment."

"Dishen and Lanyue."

"what?"

"that's what we should name our kids. a boy and a girl."

"argh Wang Hedi, stop making fun of me!"

"seriously, what are you doing, Yue? it's just one date. what are you so afraid of?"

"I - ...."

"do you not like me that way? if you don't then just say so. i'm fine with that. we can stay friends. but listing all these excuses of why i shouldn't date you is frankly, kinda lame. i know all these about you. i find them charming. and i wanna know more."

"so you can make fun of me more?"

"you forgot the word "affectionately" at the end there."

"i'm seriously not easy to be with."

"neither am i. but we seem to have been getting along just fine."

"what if we date and we break up and ruin our friendship?"

"first of all, you are getting WAY ahead of yourself. second of all, i don't see us breaking up, EVER. third of all, even if we do break up, people break up all the time and the world hasn't come to an end. fourth of all, i will pick you up Friday at 8pm okay? "

"no. i'm fat. and too plain for you."

"WHAT THE FA. i dont know where that's coming from but it sounds like a good topic to talk about on our date. right now i'm just gonna say, shouldn't i be the judge of that? and I say you are perfect for me."

"i don't know, Dylan"

"you do know, Shen Yue. stop being so stubborn and just say yes, already. i can see it in your eyes, you've wanted to say yes since the beginning."

"I DID NOT."

"your eyes say otherwise, babe. so, Friday yeah?"

"i can't."

"SERIOUSLY? YOU'RE STILL HAVENT RUN OUT OF EXCUSES? FINE, I'LL- ..."

"no. i mean I literally can't on Friday. i promised Xiao Wen i would go with her to pick a birthday present for her mom."

"Oh. saturday then? or sunday? whatever day is fine with me. you pick."

"how does 6.30 Saturday sound?"

"PERFECT. like you. and me."

"you will be the death of me."

"after the run around you gave me for just one date, THAT SHOULD BE MY LINE."

"yeah well, there's no copyright to that line."

author's note:

this one came to be out of the excitement of diyue performing jay chou's "love confession" at hunantv year-end concert (i've attached the clip of their performance at the top of the page.)

these lyrics in particular inspired the ficlet:

i am a massive jay chou fan but this song wasn't in the top 10 of my favourite song from him. but after diyue performed it, i often play it on loop and i think it is now in the top 5, at least. such is the power of diyue, i suppose.
