Ali Raza died.
Laila's godfather died. He was shot.
Laila could see it in front of her. But her mind short-circuited. Her heart broke into several pieces with a piercing pain that hurt more than anything Laila had ever felt in her entire life. If she hadn't felt the air travel through her lungs, she might as well have thought she stopped breathing. When her tears finally ran dry after several minutes, she felt hollow. Brutus held her when her body went limp. Beyond the study, she could hear Dimitri calling the ambulance. Laila doubted if she would hear anything other than screaming anytime soon. She felt oddly detached from her own body, like a part of her was missing and the only thing left was a numb hollow shell. She starred at Ali Raza's face once again, letting her fingers caress his pale face. He was cold.
Laila let go of Ali Raza and Brutus, wobbling towards her purse. She dug out several things, throwing the useless items away.
"H-his lighter, he needs his lighter. H-he's cold." She mumbled under her breath. Her breathing was frantic as if she was choking on her words. She struck the glass lighter's spark wheel once, then again and again. The blue flame rose for a second before disappearing again. Brutus pushed himself further, trying to just hold the girl.
"Shush...just breathe Laila," Brutus whispered in her ears. Laila tried, she tried hard to stop herself. But just the sight of her godfather made her want to cry again.
Laila felt like she was going to faint.
"I feel like I'm...dying," Laila croaked at him, feeling another disgusting wave of emotions surging up into her chest. She didn't think that she would cry again but she proved herself wrong. Her throat was dry and her voice sounded nasally to her ears. Her chest cavity started hurting as soft whimpers left her mouth. She felt a stray tear make its way down her cheek, but she was too emotionless now. She was too tired to cry.
Dimitri entered the room once again. He just stared at the three of them. Ali Raza, who was still lying in a pool of blood; Laila, who looked a second away from an aneurysm, and finally Brutus, who was still holding her from fainting. This was all too much.
It was too much for one night, maybe even for one life.
Laila's hands were shivering and she looked dehydrated. Her knees felt weak as she fell sideways into the wall. Her heart was beating so fast that Laila was convinced it would give out on her any second. Brutus held onto her tightly, hiding her face deeper in his chest while stroking her head.
Laila wanted to hide forever.
"Haidar..." Laila muttered.
"He did this. H-he hurt him. Haidar killed mu-my Abu." Laila spoke a little loudly and clearly. Her once pale face was colored deep red. Her eyes were swollen from how hard she cried but they were still red. Rage burned inside of her.
The light which did not burn in the glass body burned inside her. It was not just giving warmth; the lighter was gonna burn everything to the ground.
A part of her was curious how it felt to kill a man. She had done it before. But Laila wasn't satisfied. Heck! Laila was scared, she felt disgusted after seeing the blood on her hands. But her mind wandered again, she wanted to kill someone. Laila wondered how it would feel to kill someone once again. This time, she wanted to kill someone.
Laila wondered how it would feel to kill Haidar.
"I will kill him Brute. I will shoot him in the head, just like his men did. I will crush Cypher into ashes and leave him to rot in this fucking bitch of a city." Laila's voice cracked.
