Something crashed on the glass table. Something large and gravelly, Laila doesn't know what. She picked it up in haste and banged it once more. It was a golden vase holding chrysanthemums, now crushed in pieces. The crunching sound increased as Laila stamped her shoe on top of them, absolutely ruining the white flowers.

"You lied to me, all this time I thought I was protecting from this life. I risked my life for you! And you, both of you were just laughing." Laila spits out, tears brimming her eyes.

Brutus did not know what to do. He felt like an intruder, someone crashing a personal problem. He should leave. He shouldn't be here. Walking away from the glass pieces, he felt a tug on his shirt. It wasn't strong and crisp; the hold was sturdy, a little manly. Dimitri held him in place, not saying anything but just watching the boy. He could see the solicitude in his eyes, so he stopped. He was exactly where he was supposed to be. He was supposed to be beside his pair.

He was here for Laila.

"-I don't care what you do, I asked Dimitri to bring you here today because I am getting you out of this mess. Once and for all." Ali Raza stated boldly. "You are done with this life; it is not made for you. Especially after I found out what went down at Proshchay today." He continued.

Laila had never seen her Godfather act this way before. Sure, he gave her suggestions all the time, but Ali Raza never demanded something from Laila. He never made decisions for her. And Laila wasn't taking his bullshit.

"No."

"What did you say?"

"I said no. I am not leaving anything; neither are you going to force me to. I might have joined this group because I wanted to protect you, but I have something else I want to protect too." Laila did not fumble on her words; she was straightforward, her gaze piercing through.

"What might that be?"

"Dimitri, I am going to get him out of Cypher and I am going to make sure Haidar suffers for everything he did." Ali Raza chuckled. He looked at Laila in amusement. Here was his goddaughter, who was so fucking naïve that she was promising of protecting someone who betrayed her.

"Do you hear yourself? You're a college student! That's all you are, the only reason you are standing here alive, is because I made it so. Sure I wasn't informed about your little meeting with Mother in Novosibirsk, but that doesn't mean I don't know any better. You killed a man today, what is it going to be tomorrow? Working for killers, getting addicted to cheap drugs, PROSTITUTION? This isn't your life Laila-"

"BUT IT IS!" Laila screamed in a high-pitched voice.

"You made it my life. Sure, you were hiding in the shadows watching me. But every person I met, every incident I discovered, every memory I made...it was all me, Mr. Raza. You made this my life. So I'll do anything I have to. You have no right to circumscribe my value.

My life just began."

Laila's words latched themselves into Raza's mind. She never did that, never called him by his name. From the start, it was always her and her dear Abu. Laila's eyes were bloodshot, anger raging on a display but also maybe betrayal? Ali Raza had lied to her no doubt. He knew that was going to have consequences. He just did not think, the consequences would make him lose his goddaughter.

He couldn't do that, he couldn't lose Laila.

He promised his friend he would protect her.

"I-I didn't mean to hurt you Dorogoy...I was just looking out for you." Laila's heartbroken face was still edged upon his mind. Fuck, Laila's face when he mentioned the man she murdered.
