Brutus had driven the car into one of the middle districts, not particularly rich considering the state of the road on which the car was traveling, but there was worse out there, Laila had seen it and breathed it. The last time they visited Cypher's den, they took a cleaner road. Even if she was asleep for most of the journey, this road did not remind her of that horrible night. The night Ali Raza was killed.
"There," Brutus said.
Laila focused on where her friend was pointing. It was a condo, must have been built recently, but all the lights were off. It was quite late, almost ten in the evening, but still.
"This was the address he sent us?" Laila asked.
"Well, obviously Haidar has different places to host parties and kill college students," Brutus said as he drove the car closer to the curb slowly. Laila did not laugh at his snarky comment, that's the last thing Laila could do especially considering the way they left her house after the call.
Igor was adamant about waiting for Dimitri but Laila couldn't do that anymore. He wanted to join Laila but the girl said it was her battle to fight. Brutus saw straight through her bullshit and was stern about his decision to join her. She couldn't say no after he revealed their twin tattoo, swearing how they were a pair and every unfortunate incident in their lives was an outcome of their intertwined fate. It was nothing more than a bucket of bullshit but Laila wasn't stupid enough to walk in there alone. So she complied.
Brutus parked the car, turning off the engine he sent a look at Laila before he sighed and reached for the glove compartment. He took a gun out of it and, surprisingly, gloves. Laila was sure that Brutus was the only person who actually kept gloves in that compartment. She watched the structure before her, holding the air in her lungs, and exhaled when they started aching.
Dzerzhinskogo was a neutral district; this much Igor had informed her after the address was revealed. If she died here, no one would suspect a thing. Indeed a perfect place for Haidar to do whatever the fuck he wanted.
Laila's skin felt bare.
Back at Laila's mansion, Dimitri finally arrived.
"How could you be so fucking stupid? How could you not have called me immediately?" He snarked a comment at Igor and his spoilt cat.
"I did call you, I just couldn't stop them."
"You know what? I am the idiot. I always trust you with those kids and you just fucking mess it up. I shouldn't have left them alone with you. EVER!"
Igor sighed at this. He sat there for a while, waiting for Dimitri to start his car before his phone rang. It was from one of the companies who installed surveillance cameras around Ali Raza's house. Footage that was five minutes long was sent to his account and the man swore it needed immediate attention. So, much to Dimitri's annoyance, they waited.
There were seven shots in all, varying from a flash of a man down the street from the front window of a car to one of him just on the front steps of the house, looking back over his shoulder at something but not the car. Dimitri and Igor stared at that photograph and after some thought he zoomed into the shot, making the man's face larger until the point in which it had taken up most of the screen. It was impossible to mistake him even when the image blurred slightly from the zoom, face mostly visible over his shoulder and beneath the mop of hair over his eyes. Dimitri could see the hint of that grey peaking from the hat and flashy red color.
He had to warn Laila.
"Okay, let's just go." Laila addressed Brutus as they both stepped out of the car.
"Once we're done with this I want to drink that Fruity chamomile tea."
