It was nearing ten-thirty when the snow finally started setting around the streets of Kazan. The clouds looked lighter and the air felt weightless. Ali Raza sank in his chair, closing his computer screen. He leaned towards the window screen, the glass fogging up slightly from his breath against it.
"Do you need anything for the night sir?" asked one of the cleaners from the edge of the entrance door.
Ali Raza just nodded his head asking all of them to take leave for the night. The cleaner bowed down and closed the door behind her. Raza walked towards the computer screen once more. He saw the status bar completed. The scoopers had been copied. He smiled slightly before shutting down his computer. All of this was going to end soon.
Soon, his goddaughter would come back home.
Ali Raza was still in his study. His eyes felt droopy, he was tired. A knock on the door jolted him up. He walked past the halls to answer the door. A huge smile plastered on his face.
Maybe his goddaughter was back.
Laila sat there.
For the longest time, she denied anyone to detach her from Brutus's body. His blood was soaked in her dress, embedded in her skin like some metallic perfume. But Laila did not leave. She held his lifeless body, tears falling silently. Vas understood, but he was also impatient.
"Get her away from him." He whispered in Haidar's ears.
Immediately, two men walked towards her snatching Brutus out of her hands. Laila screamed, jolting up in resistance. She kicked one of the men in his groin getting slapped in return. After a failed attempt, Laila had to stop. Haidar dragged Dimitri from his collar, almost like a dog from his leash. He put him in one corner raising his Mossberg against his heart making Laila go limp. She stopped her fit, her entire body freezing up.
"Tsk, tsk...You were supposed to enjoy your last year as a college student, not a thug with a bounty over your head. I have handled your drama enough little girl. Now it's time for business." Vas said.
"Business? BUSINESS?" Laila screamed.
"What makes you think I want anything with you and your business? I won't even spit on the ground you walked." She gritted through her teeth. Haidar bought the gun closer to Dimitri's chest, pulling the safety leaver down. Laila chuckled.
"So you're going to kill him too? Then you'll go ahead and kill Igor and me? Just kill us yourself you coward. Why make your men do it? Just like you did with my Abu...Ju-just like you killed Brutus." Laila spits out.
Vas breathed heavily. For a second Laila thought she had gotten to him before a giggle slipped from his lips. He was still ruthless, Laila thought to herself. He walked towards Laila, watching the sweat drip from her forehead even in the ice-cold weather.
"You think I just kill anyone without reason?" Vas asked. Laila remained silent.
"Well, you're wrong. Everything in this world has a reason. So do my actions. You know why I killed your Abu. I think it's time I tell you why I killed your other half."
Laila wanted to die.
The door revealed a man dressed in a three-piece suit, paired with a red bow tie.
"Vas, what a surprise!" Raza spoke, walking behind the man.
"Surprise indeed Raza. You know I am full of those."
"What brings you here at this hour?" Ali Raza asked.
"You see, your goddaughter seems to be interested in a particular mafia. Are you aware of this fact?" Ali Raza's blood froze. He knew something was wrong.
