Description:
Mia Hastings was never one to follow the rules. Her brother knew it, her best friend knew it. Everyone knew it. She lives for the moment, doing whatever she feels and thinking of the consequences later. Her main goal in life is to live it.
Mia's brother's best friend, Drake O'Connell, was never on big rules.
The judge who sentenced him to two years in prison knew it. He is known for being the bad boy, partying and womanizing. His charm, good looks, and obnoxious behavior made his life pretty easy, and his main goal in it was to have fun. He had lost two years of his life locked up, so he was determined to make up for the lost time.
So when these two people are thrown together, both without a care in the world, issues of their own and more secrets than an episode of Pretty Little Liars, you can expect a story full of laughs, tears, and arguments, and felonies.
They might be breaking the law, but both Mia and Drake are about to find out that when it feels wrong, it is ALWAYS more fun.
Review:
So the description above basically sums up Illegal My Ass. Both Drake and Mia experience a lot of breaking the law in this story, such as stealing and underage drinking (especially underage drinking; LOTS of them). And they also even break one, but pretty significant, bro code, which is don't fool around with your best friend's little sister behind your best friend's back, or else real sh*t's about to go down. This story also deals about drugs later in the story. Although lying to and fooling around behind your best friend's back is the first pivotal conflict of this story, dealing with a drug mafia is another more serious conflict. And yup, these are pretty much the disclaimers of this story. Oh and there are also a lot of cursing and teasing *wink* going on in this story, which is why this is probably restricted. Therefore, read at your own risk.
Here comes the fun part. Illegal My Ass is quite a hilarious story. Every chapter has humor, even in the most serious chapters. Both Drake and Mia have a pretty creative range of vocabulary and can describe anything in the funniest (and dirtiest, but most accurate) way. These two are so alike; they're perfect for each other. Only Drake can call Mia a dirty biatch without me, as a reader, and Mia getting offended, and only Mia can label Drake as a melon slüt and Drake will just pull off that devilish smirk of his and take pride in being labelled with that name. Although both Drake and Mia are complete slüts, I still love the both of them because they're the most genuine Wattpad characters I've talked about so far. Their lack of verbal filters actually shows just how absolute real they are as individuals. They may have the dirtiest mouths and minds, but they also have the realest characters, which I freakin' salute to. Maybe the only few instances they aren't being real are when they're too stubborn to admit their feelings to each other and when they have to hide it from Mia's brother, but other than those, they pretty much treat anyone else the most genuine way they can.
Another couple of this story is Nate and Lacey. Nate is Mia's older brother and Drake's best friend, and Lacey is Mia's best friend. I'm assuming that they met through Mia, I'm not sure, but when I first met Nate and Lacey, they've already been hooking up, lol. Both of them are also part of the most genuine bunch who didn't get to be blessed with verbal filters. They say whatever they think and feel like saying, but they can't beat Drake and Mia when it comes to the most colorful and creative vocabulary competition though. And yeah, Nate and Lacey are also another stubborn friends-with-benefits couple that keeps hooking up and denying that they do actually have real feelings towards each other, feelings more than intimacy and physical attraction, but unlike Drake and Mia, Nate and Lacey's give-and-take relationship isn't kept as a secret. The whole town basically knows about their setup. But everything gets less hot and way cuter every time Nate gets drunk and starts acting like a little girl clinging onto Lacey like his life depends on it. Same thing goes with Drake towards Mia when he gets drunk too, hah.
These characterers' inclination to drinking, getting high, and messing/fooling around is why the story is as hilarious as it is and why the characters are as tempting as they are actually. All of them have their weaknesses, which I do appreciate, because it makes the story more realistic, since I'm aware that people like them actually exist, and I totally believe, as well, that people like them are the realest bunch in this dysfunctional society.
Favorite Quotes:
Drake: People have their guards down when they first wake up in the morning, making them a lot more vulnerable. If you never saw that smile he gave you, you wouldn't have been so attached and he wouldn't have had that much power over you.
--
Nate: Actually agreeing to never do this again with Lacey is something my mouth was finding hard to let me do. The idea of not being with her ... laughing with her, sleeping with her. I'm not even talking about the sëx, just generally lying in bed next to her and talking about random shït until we both fell asleep. It wasn't the sëx that made my feelings for Lacey grow; it was all the bits in-between.
--
Nate: You know you're the only girl for me right?
Lacey: Sure I am Nate, now get in the car.
Nate: No, listen to me! Me and you... We always come back to each other. Because we... are meant to be together.
Lacey: Nate, you're drunk. Get in the car, please.
Nate: For you, of course. I'd do anything for you.
--
Mia: Turns out I've turned into one of the dogs from Lady and the Tramp. They didn't just go at it doggy style like any other normal canine, they shared freaking spaghetti. Spaghetti! Those asshöles had feelings for each other.
--
Mia: People make assumptions about you because a closed book, and you can't get angry about that because you're the only person who can change it!
--
Mia: Go to sleep Drake.
Drake: You're not leaving are you?
Mia: Leaving? This is my house Drake.
Drake: Okay, just don't... leave. If I go to sleep, you will be here when I wake up yeah?
--
Nate: Every time she stepped 3 feet away from you, I genuinely thought you were going to have a panic attack. I saw the way you looked at her, the way you spoke to her. It took you being stoned out of your mind for me to see it, but I did.
--
Mia: And for all those believers in love at first sight, think about it. How can you fall in love with someone when you first see them? You know nothing about them. The only thing you are falling in love with is their appearance, and that sure as hell doesn't support a healthy relationship.
