Autumn is the best season to come, it was a little chilly outside and the leaves were changed to orange, red, and yellow falling off the trees to create a leaf pile. My parents were paying bills or doing important work today, so today I had the full day to play in the backyard. I might act like a kid, but I just love autumn and also winter that's coming around in a few months.
"Mom, Dad, I'm going out back to play in the leaves," I spoke up.
"That's fine dear." They replied as I headed out of the backyard to play in the leaves.
I ran over to start to make a pile of my own, when I was done I just dived right in there not a care in the world and lay there staring up into the cloudy sky. This felt so nice to not worry about the hot weather; just a small windy breeze flowing past me. I lay deeper into the pile and felt hands covering my eyes as I tensed a little and heard a familiar giggle.
"Guess who?" The familiar person asked.
I grinned playfully, "Hmm...is it...Veronica?" I teased.
"Hell no! I'm not here at all." She replied with a fake gasp.
I uncovered her hands over my face turning around to kiss her as she kissed back.
"You scared me though~"
"It was worth it." She shrugged and sat next to me on the leaf pile as we stared up at the sky.
"I love this time of the year." I sigh softly.
"Me too. Plus, in a few months or so, we'll have our winter break and Christmas."
"Yeah, my parents said we're going to go back home during our winter break and celebrate Christmas here," I replied as she sat up a little surprise.
"Really? How long will you be gone?" She asked.
"Maybe just one week before Christmas," I replied.
I looked at Becky's face that her smile felled and she looked down sad and 'Oh' in silence.
"So, you'll be gone for a week before Christmas?" She asked.
I nodded, "That's right. I am excited to go back and see my friends again."
"Yeah, I bet." She muttered.
"Becky~" I pouted leaning close to behind her back placing my chin on her shoulder and hugged around her waist. "It won't be so bad when I'm away. We can still spend some time together and with our friends before I go."
She let out a sigh, "...I know. Since we're out here and there's nothing else to do. What are your thoughts?"
I thought for a moment and I had one thing in mind, "Well, we can go out and get ourselves a treat?"
She chuckled, "Sure, but where and I can take us there."
"The candy store?" I suggested.
"Ask your parents if we can go." She said and I left to go ask my parents only to find a note on the table.
We're going to the grocery store to buy some more food, and head downtown to get your father's car fixed.
-Mom
I ran back to Becky letting her know that my parents are out running errands. It was the perfect time for us to leave and get ourselves a treat.
