I heard a few noises in a distance. Steve's heart beats beside my ears started to speed up. I was having a great sleep in the protective arms of Steve Dawson. I couldn't give a care in the world. Nothing could be worthy of leaving this comfortable place and turn my attention at it, I thought. But Steve didn't feel the same.
"Cal.. Cal!" I heard still trying to open my eyes. "Cal.. wake up. I hear noises from out and I think something's wrong" he said sounding worried. I finally decided to make an attempt to wake up. Opening my eyes I was met with Steve's clouded grey ones that looked like that only when he was worrying about something. He was right about sounds coming from outside. The sounds seemed to be coming from too near. Hey were gasps and little screams from terrified people.
Realization struck me and I pulled myself up from the mattress. Steve got up after me fixing his hair. I ran my hands through my hair too and straightened my clothes. We gave each other a worried look before storming out of Steve's tent together.
When I thought the sounds were coming from very near, I wasn't as alert as I should have been. As soon as we left the tent, a strong stench of smoke was filled in the air. We weren't greeted by the happy cheerful ground anymore. There was only smoke in front of my eyes.
I swayed by hand in front of my face to reduce the effect of the smoke on my eyes. I moved ahead seeing almost everyone gathered in front of a tent. It wasn't far from Steve's tent. In fact, it was just beside Steve's tent. As soon as I recognized the tent that was currently burning in flames, my face turned pale.
Steve was saying something beside me but I could hardly hear. Everyone started pointing at me and whispering, some worriedly and some in shock. I just stared at the tent which was now almost burnt down. It was my tent.
My things, my favorite clothes and everything else I had brought with me was burning down with it. I felt someone shake my shoulders but I couldn't hear anything. I just stared at the tent.
But Steve wasn't ready to let me be lost like that. He caught both my shoulders and pulled me to the side bringing me back to my senses. "Cal are you okay? You were walking towards your tent! I'm so glad you were with me last night!" He said almost beginning to cry. He engulfed me in his embrace making me feel protected and strong.
While my head still lay on his chest wondering what was happening, I seen someone at a distance. I had to tilt my head a little to see who's face had a somewhat different expression than the rest of us.
Shane stood at a distance stretching his neck in an attempt to get a better look at my tent, his smirk present the entire time. I pulled away from Steve after which he looked at me with concern filled in his eyes. He thought I'd pulled away only because I needed space. Little did he realize that he was the space I needed. I brushed my thoughts aside and fixed my concentration on Shane.
Not a moment later Shane's eyes fell on me and Steve. The wide smirk on his face vanished and was replaced with confusion. He stared for a long minute still contemplating the scene before him. He eyes moved from us to the tent and then back to us. He stepped backwards as if some sort of realization struck him. He turned and vanished off inside his tent.
"Cali!! Are you okay!?" Amy's worried voice filled my ears. I turned to face her normally fair, cream colored face that now looked like she hadn't slept in days. Her eyes glittered from the tears that fell from them like diamonds on her face.
"Oh Cali! I'm so glad you weren't in there! Your safe!" she exclaimed. She pulled me in an embrace squeezing me. "I'm fine Amy" I said hugging her back and taking a deep breath. "My clothes and everything I brought to this place seems burnt down" I said looking at my tent again.
"You can wear my clothes for the rest of the time we are here. The important thing is that you are safe" she stated. "She's right Cal. Please stop getting tensed. You don't know how happy I am that I kept you with me last night" as soon as Steve spoke these words I noticed Amy change her stance. She stopped crying instantly like a baby did when he was given a little lollipop in his hand. She looked at me gave me a look that clearly said 'I want to know what happened later'. I gave her an 'can we do this at another time?' look in return.
"What is going on he- Oh my God!" the Mistress stared at my tent in astonishment, her mouth wide open. The Master followed her and took in the scene himself. "Whose tent is this?" he asked looking worried. In stead of answering, everyone's eyes turned to me.
The Master and Mistress came up to me concern filled in their eyes. "Were you inside? Who brought you out? Are you okay?" they showered me with questions. I didn't know what to say. If I told them I was with Steve all night, the entire crowd would hear too. I didn't want to embarrass Steve or myself.
"I was outside the tent when this happened" I managed. "But my things are in and probably destroyed by now" They looked sad and started communicating something with their looks. They gave me a sympathetic look and went on telling everyone not to panic and to get back in their own tents.
Steve looked at me and graced his fingers on my back comforting me. His actions made me want to melt every time. Amy took the cue and left with Tyron not before blowing me a kiss that was filled with happiness more than anything else.
After she was gone I turned and embraced Steve taking my chance to squeeze him tight. He chuckled under my hold and held me back. I needed this hug to calm my mind down. Everything that my mind went through in the last ten minutes needed to settle down.
"Don't worry Cal. My shirts would really suit you well" Steve said smiling above me. I blushed against his chest choosing not to reply to that but try his shirts out anyway. "Let's go get you something to eat" he said pulling away.
I sighed before answering "Wait for me in your tent would you? I just need to speak to.. Amy. We'll eat together once I'm back" I assured him. "Girl talks huh?" he asked teasing. My eyes darted towards Shane's tent and I took a sharp breath "Yeah, that girl needs some talking."--------------------
