I had to convince Steve to get inside his tent before I left so that he couldn't see who's tent I actually entered. I told him to keep a few t-shirts ready for me to wear and that much was enough to excite him.
I turned away from his tent and mine too who's fire was trying to be put off by the helpers there. I hoped they retrieved at least some of my stuff unburnt.
"Cali!" I heard a very familiar sweet voice call my name. Matt Johnson was beaming up at me from a distance. He increased his pace and reached up to me in no time. "Hey! how are you? I was terrified seeing your tent but then I saw you with Amy and that other guy. I thought you needed some time to be alone so I didn't disturb you then but I saw you now so thought I'll come ask you" he finished, speaking all of it in one go.
"I'm fine Matt. My tent isn't but their trying to put the fire off. Let's see if I can retrieve any of my things" I said pointing towards the struggling helpers and sighing.
"Yeah I hope you do. By the way.. that guy huh?" he said smirking. My cheeks flushed even before he could finished his sentence. "Looks like you got your love already! Damn I lost my chance Caliiii" he said making the cutest puppy face I'd ever seen. "Oh shut up! I know about your own little love bubble!" I said hushing him.
His smile widened almost touching both his ears "Yeah well... she's nice... she's great" he managed to say between blushes. Guys that were so shy always stole my heart. I giggled shooing him towards his girlfriend who was waiting for him near the breakfast table that was being set up. I took a deep breath and turned coming face to face with my destination again.
I stood at the entrance of Shane's tent taking deep breaths. There were a lot of similarities between this time and the last time I stood here. I didn't have a plan even today. I needed to give him a piece of mind now too. The only difference was that I wasn't in a mood to hurt him today.
When I saw him earlier, looking at my tent and then at me in confusion, his intentions were clear in front of me. The helpers were trying to find out how the fire took place so that they could prevent it from happening in other tents. But I knew too well how the fire took place and why it happened in my tent only.
Shane's eyes had said it all. When he was smiling as he saw the tent burn and when his smile dropped when he saw me outside the tent, his intentions were clear. I just wanted to know why he did that. I pushed my hair behind with my fingers and opened the entrance of his tent.
Shane sat idle on his mattress staring at an empty space ahead. He was so lost that he didn't even realize someone had entered his tent. I walked closer to him and sat across his figure. As soon as I did that, his head snapped at me and his face color changed.
He looked just a little more pale though as if he was already pale before. His figure straightened but he couldn't meet my eyes. I couldn't depict what he felt like looking at his eyes. I sat silently across him for a while but realized I didn't have that much time. If Steve learnt I wasn't with Amy, he would freak out and come searching here.
I was just gathering words to speak before he did "Should I cover myself with pillows? I don't have an actual iron shield here" he said plastering a look that didn't really qualify for a smile.
I couldn't help but let out a chuckle. I realized it wasn't the right situation and straightened myself. "I'm sorry Shane. I know it got bad.. but I guess you totally deserved it" I managed to say shrugging. He chose not to reply to that and changed the topic. "Hey listen I didn't mean what you thought last evening. I just wanted to.. give you company. I'm sorry if felt anything else. I don't even think I'm interested in you anymore." He stated.
"Ouch Shane. That hurt" I joked, hoping to lighten up the place. "Decide what you want." He replied not in a mood to get my joke at all. I hadn't seen him like this since the time I came here. He was always smirking and had his head up spreading the vibe around. I considered the thought that the way he behaved now, was because of me and no matter what happened between him and Steve in the past, I'd known he was good by heart and all he wanted was to get back at Steve. He had no bad intention for me, yet in Steve's anger, he was ready to hurt me. And that's where he was wrong. I wanted him to realize just that.
"Why did you come here Calisse? Having doubts on me? Got to know about how your tent burned down? Why didn't you get Dawson with you?" he started.
"Woah woah... too straightforward eh.? Are you accepting what you did Shane?" "It doesn't matter. I know you already know." He replied.
"Confession is a stronger proof than speculation don't you think? And why would I get Steve? That was my tent! You think hurting me for your past difference with Steve will get you satisfaction? Did it?" He didn't reply to me. He just sat there staring at a new spot now.
"Shane you look miserable." I informed him totally meaning it. He didn't reply, just nodded. "And Steve doesn't even know who burned down my tent. If he would know he wouldn't need anyone's approval or permission to come here." He still didn't reply. He didn't get angry or defend himself like I expected him too.
I sighed. I would have to spend some more time than I expected here. "What is with you Shane? Why would you do that? Steve told me everything about your past. I know why you hate him so much but it does not justify anything. I know what you and your family did to him" I blurted out.
His gaze moved to me and he met my eyes. He made a deep expression and all he said in reply was, "You don't know anything Cali. You don't know me."----------------
