A Lesson

The slow romantic music filled my senses as I tried to feel comfortable in it. I gazed up at the man who held my waist, trying to smile at his comments. Swaying swiftly with each move he led me by my hand. Shane and I had been dancing together. Though felt comfortable and light to be with, the beautiful sound of the music just didn't seem like it was for us. And just like the other guys I'd met in my life before coming here, I hadn't felt the affection I should have felt. But I decided to give him a chance anyway. Chasing guys away before even knowing them was one thing people who knew me always pestered me about.

After I chose Shane during the session, the golden haired young lady officially called Bianca, had moved off Steve's face. I couldn't tell his demeanor from the distance I was in but I didn't attempt to do so for long.

I did not want to know how his mood was. I pondered about asking Shane what was up with him and Steve but I didn't want to ruin the moment. I didn't want him to think I was still wondering about Steve. Additionally, I didn't want to know something that didn't concern me.

There were a couple of games with the partner we picked and I had the most enjoyable times with them. So what, if Shane was more keen on telling me how another girl stumbled or how clever or charming another was. He still made me smile.

I still won many games with him and I'd shown Steve he had no power on me.. none that he could notice. Only if the golden haired chick hadn't come, he would have gotten the lesson he deserved. As of now, he had his hot partner swinging her hips against him.

"Did you see how that girl Gayle nearly caught the ball but her partner couldn't catch it? I think I did that mistake once or twice too.. didn't I?" Shane said turning me around "Mmm" I managed to say. "I'm so sorry I didn't notice when you were throwing the ball at me! We would have definitely won that! Right?"

I could barely hear him this time. All I could think about was Steve and his way of giving me orders, the girl with him and his eyes on me. He was very wierd. Why would someone look at a girl who's just pissing him off when there was a girl who was ready to give him anything he wants just ahead of him. Though she looked like she knew he wasn't looking at her, she didn't seem to object He got away too easily with it and had drooling over him now.

"Cali? Are you listening?" Shane asked a little louder this time bringing me out of my thoughts. "Yeah! Gayle's partner was bad." I said hoping that was actually the last thing he said. "Yeah but after that. I was talking about our game. What you looking at?" He asked just starting to turn at the direction of my distraction. I realized soon enough that I didn't want him to know who I was looking at. It would not just be embarrassing but it could also prove something that wasn't true.

I quickly clutched his arm and pulled him go face me. "No no. I wasn't looking at anything. I was wondering... about.. why we.. didn't win." I completed, praying to the invisible powers that it made some sense. "Yeah that's because of me" he began and I breathed in relief. "Yeah we could have won that. Why didn't you catch the ball on time?" I asked remembering what had happened. "Sorry about that.. Lilly tried to distract me so that we lost. That was definitely cheating!"

"Lilly? Who Lilly?" I asked trying to understand what he said. "Oh that girl on the opposite team. Anyway forget that. Did I mention? You dance really good" he complimented for the first time apart from refering to me as 'Hey beautiful' more than once. "Thanks.. I do this often with my sibling" I said remembering Kaden. He would give that Steve a piece of mind if he were here.

After a whole lot of fun and overthinking, the sun was beginning to set. Everyone around were tired and glad when there was an announcement. We were asked to get back to our tents since they wanted to do some cleaning on the ground and prepare for dinner.

I turned to look at Shane, smiling. "So.. how about we meet for dinner?" I asked prepared to get inside my tent and take a small nap. "Umm yeah.." he started "I was thinking.. maybe we could hang out in your tent.. or mine until dinner?" he suggested.

I was unable to tell the expression on his face or the reason why he wanted to hang out with me. But I was ready to say no. I wanted nothing more than to take a nap and rest for sometime. But before I could decline his offer, I saw a figure behind us.

Steve's clouded grey eyes sparkled like thunderbolts, his hands in his pocket. He was leaning over one of the tents, his lady slobbering her hands over him. But he wasn't even looking at her. He was looking at me.

That moment, a thought graced my mind. It brightened my eyes and brought peace to my devilish mind. So what if I hadn't got the opportunity last time? I would show him I could take my own decisions this time. I smirked as he glared straight into my eyes and turned to look at Shane. I held his hand in mine and pulled him towards my tent. I noticed Steve's body stiffen as he realized what was happening. Shane looked intrigued as he grinned at my pull.

"Suree Shane.. I would have felt bored alone anyway" I said trying to be loud. I couldn't tell if Steve heard me or not but the holes he was making with his drilling stare gave me hope. I opened the entrance of my tent giving him access first. Before I could entered the tent myself, I turned my head and my eyes locked directly into Steve's and I straightaway regretted my decision to do that. The look he had on his face could make the strongest person quiver.

His body looked hard as rock. Bianca had stopped her attempts knowing that they failed terribly and was frowning by his side. They way he eyed me, made me stop and stare at him. He was capable of gaining my entire attention. As much as it troubled me to accept, this man made the hair on my body rise.

I shook my head, looked ahead, trying not to consider the worst. Spreading my fingers across my arms, I tried to cease the goosebumps and strode inside my tent promising myself to br careful before I decide to meet those eyes again.
