In the middle of the field stood a tall tree with big branches ornate with dark red and brown leaves. It wasn't shaped perfectly like those trees in the palace that the gardeners took a care to groom every week, this one had an irregular shape and well, it was dying. You stood in front of it and look up, you smiled through your tears while childhood memories came back to you. How your father taught you to climb it, the numbers of time you fell from the tall branches but she was there to catch you.
"Who will catch me now mother?" You looked at the picture at the tree's roots and sobbed. It has been 2 weeks since she's passed, and still it feels like you lived her death every single day.
You haven't given the time to grief, you had to carry on with your role as a soldier in the army. Looking at the symbol of destruction everyday again and again knowing it was the same thing that scarred your family for ever.
Why were they still alive and she, dead?
Why is life so cruel? When did it get so cruel?
It has to end now.
Your thoughts were flooded with these questions, and all were concluded with one answer. "It has to end now."
You teared your uniform apart leaving only your shorts and a red top. " For you, Mother..." You kneeled down and grabbed your sword, "By all means, I will end this war."
TIME SKIP
You walked to your room, tired and sweaty after running your way back home. The house was empty as usual, your father Shen was still in the palace for a meeting with the Fire Lord . It was the perfect time, it would've been too hard otherwise. You went to the basement and open your mother's suitcase. The only things that survived the fire, three blue tunics and dresses fur and one hooded coat with white trimmed line of white fur. When you picked up the coat it revealed a little crystal box underneath it. You open the box and smiled. It was her necklace. A dark blue choker with a jewel hanging from it, it bore a hand-crafted half moon symbol and it was beautiful.
/FLASHBACK/
"Mommy, what is this?" You said running to her with the necklace in your little puffy hands.
"Where did you find it y/n?"
"Umm, I-i found it lying on floor in the basement." You said while looking to your feet.
"Come here young lady," she picked you up and took the bracelets from your hands. "What did i say about going through my things?"
"You said not to do it mommy." You laid your head on her shoulder and sulked. She looked at your doe eyes and took pity of you, the dog face always got to her. She took it and put it around your neck, it was a bit large and hung low but to you it was perfect.
"This will grant you the access to my country one day, but nobody from the capital must see this. Okay baby?"
You nodded and kissed her on the cheek.
/END OF FLASHBACK/
"Y/N? What are you doing?"
You startled when you heard the voice of your father. He looked at you from the stairs and wondered what you were doing with your Yiazara's things.
You stood up and lowered your head, 'why did you have to come back early today, out of all days.'
"Sweetheart, what happened?" He asked while walking towards you in his uniform. " why are your clothes all tore up?"
"I can't do this anymore, Father." You mumbled, you squeezed your mother's necklace and struggled to keep the tears in.
You showed him the necklace and looked at him. "I can't do this anymore."
His eyes widen and he looked at you in confusion. "Y/N... What do you mean?"
"I cannot fight for the one's that took her from us, Father. Can't you see? The war has taken enough from us, what if it takes you too..."
Tears rolled down your cheek while you took a step back.
" I don't want to lose you too. I don't want to be alone..."
"Y/N," his voice was firm and steady unlike yours, the tone he used was more like a general talking to his subordinate. "Enough with the non-sense, I am fighting everyday to change this world. I know that your mother... she wanted me to do what is best for you. And you will do as I say." He grabbed your arm and tried to drag you to your room but you stood still.
"Non-sense? You are in command of the same men who murdered her!" You shouted, your voice cracked and so did your heart. He was blind, brainwashed by the crazy ideals of the Firelord.
The Fire lord...
Zuko... maybe...
"Enough! You will do as I say!"
You jerked your hand and looked at your father straight in the eye, "It all has to end now."
You quickly chi blocked him and took your mothers case with you. You ran to the street and unleashed your ostrich horse.
You hopped on her and said
"Go lady, go."
At once it rushed through the streets and you didn't look back.
