I looked down at my phone repetitively. I had an hour to go and I could not read anymore. It was making me fall asleep. I stretched out my legs and got up to stretch more. My stomach growled and then I realized that I had not eaten all day. To my liking there was a food stand.
“What can I get you?” asked a young boy, who had to be about 10. I smiled at how adorable he was.
“Can I get a water and....” I paused to look through the choice they had. There weren’t many, but I was so hungry.
“Can I get a water and a bagel with butter?” I asked I handed him money and he gave me my food. I walked towards the line of girls waiting. There was still roughly 1,500 of them. That was still a lot. It looked like an assembly line, each girl going through each boy in a matter of seconds. I bit into my bagel and it tasted incredible. I was so hungry.
“Hey are you Dillion?” A girl came up to me. She looked about my age. She must have been a fan.
“Yes.” I said trying not to talk with food in my mouth.
“I really look up to you!” The girl said. She seemed really nice and pretty normal.
“Thanks! But can I ask you why?”
“Well everything that you’re going through it’s pretty rough. BUt you seem pretty normal about it, like it doesn’t even bother you.”
“If you only knew.” I said so quietly but i knew she heard me.
“You know if you need someone to talk some fans want to hear it. I know I would.”
“I don’t want you to miss your opportunity to meet the boys.” I said thinking about her option. I did want another girl to talk to.
“I met them already. Trust me I don’t know If I would be here if I haven’t met them yet.
“You really want to talk to me?”
“Any girl here would want to talk to you. I’m just the only one who will get enough courage to actually talk to you.”
“I need a girl to talk to. I’m surrounded by too much testosterone.” I said and the girl smiled.
“I’m Rita by the way.” She said holding out her hand. I shook it and tok her to the tree where I was sitting underneath. “So what’s wrong?” She asked with a sympathetic look in her eyes.
That’s when I broke down and told her everything. From the day I arrived in australia to this morning. Being bullied by people in school, to the event in the bathroom. Rita was an incredible listener. I finally felt like I actually had a friend. Before I knew it I was being called by Daniel to come back to the behind the stage.
“Who was that?” She asked.
“Daniel. I have to go back to the boys. And Gina.” I said.
“IT was really nice talking to you Dillion. If you ever need someone to talk to let me know.” She said hugging me.
“Hey RITA!” I called after her before she left my sight.
“What’s up?”
“Do you want to properly meet the boys? I can introduce you?” I said. Her face lit up and you could see how incredibly happy she was that I was telling her this.
“Are you serious?” She said and you could see her hands begin to shake.
“Absolutely, you listened to everything I had to say and I owe you.” I grabbed her wrist and pulled her along.
“Who is this?” Luke asked.
“Boys this is Rita.”
“I remember you. You came today!” Jai said.
“Holy shit I can’t believe you remembered me!” Rita yelled very loudly. Jai laughed.
“Rita is my new friend! She is super cool and probably the nicest person I have met in Australia. And she listens to all my problems!”
“Excuse me I thought I was the nicest person you met in Australia!” Beau said.
“Beau don’t flatter yourself.” Rita laughed.
“What’s your twitter Rita? I have to follow my sisters new friend.” Luke asked. This left Rita speechless. She couldn’t say anything. She shook taking out her phone and typing her twitter out. All 5 boys followed her and they even tweeted her. Rita couldn’t stop smiling.
“I’m so thankful.” She said and Luke hugged her. I noticed she kept shaking.
“Was I like this when I first met you?” I asked laughing.
“No but i’m pretty sure you touched my butt.” Beau joked and i punched him in the shoulder.
“Boys we have to get back to-” Demi said. But then she stopped when she saw me. We have never met before. This was awkward.
“Demi this is our sister. Dillion!” Beau said introducing me.
“It’s a pleasure.” She smiled, but I’m not sure if it was one of those ‘i don’t care’ smiles.
“We have to go.” Demi said pointing to the van where Gina was talking to someone on the phone. “You to Dillion.” She said pulling me along. Rita stood there.
“I will call you, because I will have nothing to do at the photo shoot. We can hang out.” I called to her. She smiled and waved before retreating towards the other parking lot.
“Hey boys, how did the signing go? We sold tons of merchandise!” She said putting her phone in her pocket.
“Who was on the phone?” Jai asked.
“That’s what I was going to bring up next. I need to talk to you Dillion.” Gina said and it caught me off guard.
“Um yeah.” I said walking towards Gina. She got in a different car so I followed her. Demi went with the boys.
“I just want to apologize for everything. I don’t want our relationship to be affected because of something stupid I did.” Gina said. I remained silent. “But I just got off of the phone with William. Your mother is....well." She hesistated.
“She is?”
“Yes, but she is still sick in the hospital.”
“Oh.” I said
“She wants to see you.”
“Can I see her? Gina please. I really really want to see them.” I said I thought that I was going to cry.
“I have decided to let you go, but.” she stopped. I got nervous. “I want Beau going with you.” She said.
“Why?”
“Because I don’t want you to travel by yourself and you are going to need support.”
“But why Beau?”
“Because he is the oldest and it was actually his idea.”
“What do you mean?”
“BEau knocked the idea into my head. He was the one who convinced me to let you go.”
“Really?”
“Yes Dillion. You might think he is this bad guy but he isn’t.”
“I do not think that. Just a bit over protective.”
“He just wants what’s best for you.”
“I understand. When do I go?”
“After we are in Sydney. We are going home for a night and you leave the next morning.”
“Crap. Okay”
