Chicago sat in the seat next to Chloe. Occasionally trying to sneak glances over at her. This was the first time he's sat in the back of the class in a while. Usually he sat up front with his group of friends. Not like he wanted be up there anyways, but the teacher picked on him and called him out if he ever moved back here. Now, tough he was gone and they got a sub. All his friends knew about the massive crush that he had on Chloe.

He had already turned 18 a few months prior to his moment and had met his soulmate. But, he knew about her since 15. That was one of the perks of having your dad work in the Soulmate Organization System. Once he had met Chloe, he practically begged his dad to change it in the system. After a few months begging and pleading, his father had finally complied.

He was practically heartbroken when he found out Chloe came from a family with no soulmate and she could never truly be his. Of course with this in mind, he could always make sure that his actual soulmate didn't care much for him. 'Soulmates' are said to be someone that you are completely compatible with. But, with his dad in the operation, he knew that was complete bullshit. They just looked for someone with a similar background as you and hoped for the best. With the lie there your 'one and only' it almost never worked out.

His soulmate was also sitting in this class. She was sitting in the front row of the class, practically staring down at another student name Jacob. It didn't take a genius to realize that Jacob was one of the most attractive male in the school. Even he was willing to admit that.

Her name was Kyra. She was around 5'6 and was on the skinny side. She had long blonde hair with rose gold highlights throughout it. Her eyes were off shade of brown and weren't appealing to him. He much preferred Chloe's bright blue eyes, and her red hair. Kyra had quite a bitchy attitude as well. She wasn't nice unless it benefited her in the slightest.

She was also aware to the fact that Chicago was her soulmate. She wasn't in any rush to talk to him though. He didn't particularity mind either way. Although he should let her down sooner or later. Not like it'll matter much to her. She had boys that haven't turned 18 yet lined around the block to be with her. Her loss, his gain. She has boys that will probably leave for their soulmate. Chicago, on the other hand, had a gorgeous girl that he had a perfect chance with. According to his father, if you deemed in a family unfit for soulmates, you are given a curse and a gift in one.

The curse being, you'd never meet your 'other half' and there was no way to give you a soulmate.

The gift was that you choose someone without hurting another person.

In his case he'd be 'letting down' Kyra and he's be stuck with her in his head till the day he dies. Unless he went to a strong psychic that would be able to speak the bond. Most didn't even bother with that. Then and their soulmate just became good friends or just never talked trough their bond.

Chicago, moves his eyes back to his packet, then looks over to Chloe. She had just gotten up to turn in her packet. Ms. Mitchell had made a small announcement before hand that there were just 20 minutes left and to finish the 2 pages from the packet. He'd known Chloe since 8th grade. He was already aware of the fact that Chloe was only quiet in class but at lunch she wasn't alone. She tried not to turn in her paper first, nervous she would draw attention to herself. She refuses to ask where to turn her paper in fear of being made fun of. She cares what other people think.

He wants to know almost everything about her so he could be a good boyfriend. He wants to be able to treat her right. He wants to make her happy. But, before any of that, he needs to drop Kyra. Or at least needs to let her know that he doesn't want her as a soulmate.

Chicago turns his attention back to his paper, he was almost done with it. He just had 2 questions left. The second to last was relatively easy. He had gotten the answer in a matter of seconds.

The very last one of the 2 pages took some more effort on his end. His phone sat on his desk with his calculator open. He quickly punches in all the numbers and wrote down is answer. Some of the students have already started packing up. He rushes to circle the answer and turn his paper in.

His paper hits the desk as soon as Ms. Mitchell calls out the last 5 minutes. He walks back to his seat and slings his backpack over his shoulder. Once class was out he'd to talk to Kyra.

5 minutes and the bell rang singling the end of class. Chloe in front of him by a few steps. Chicago looked over at Ms. Mitchell following her gaze watching Chloe walk out of the class room. He furrowed his brows confused but thought nothing of it. Right now, all he had to do was talk to Kyra.
