Chapter 9- Time to Fight

(Y/N) POV

The Fire Ferrets have been training non-stop to beat the Wolf-Bats. They've been working hard and I'm proud of them but I haven't gotten a chance to talk to Korra since I confessed my feelings. We were talking about how we felt about the final match when the music radio changed, Me and Korra tense up at the sound of Amon's voice. "Goodmorning, citizens of Republic City. This is Amon. I hope you all enjoyed last night's pro bending match, because it will be the last. It's time for this city to stop worshiping bending athletes, as if they were heroes, when the true hero is Phantom or the people who demand true equality. I am calling on the council, to shut down the bending arena and cancel the finals...or else there will be severe consequences." Amon finishing his speech and it still disturbs me to my very core. Why can't this guy just leave me alone? I'm just trying to live my life. "...We need to get to city hall." Korra says and we all make our way there.

By the time we got to city hall, the meeting was already in progress. Tenzin asked us to leave but Korra refused, and debated as to why we should keep the arena open. All I hope is that Korra doesn't turn to me to say anything on the matter, because honestly I wasn't sure. Don't get me wrong, being responsible for training the pro bending champs would boost my reputation by a lot and it would make the ones I care about happy, but I care about people's safety too. I know I told Korra we would face our fears together but it's kinda hard to do that when facing her is one of my fears. Tarrlock was no help surprisingly, he's one of the only council members that seemed as if he wasn't scared of Amon but he backed away and agreed with Tenzin. Mako and Bolin attempted to give an inspirational speech but in my opinion they failed at it. Bolin looked at me while I was leaning against one of the benches. I just shrugged because it wasn't like they were going to listen, also I really had nothing to say.

Before Tarrlock brought down the gavel it was broken by a metal cable. I look at the door and see Lin Beifong retracting her wire and walking towards us. I smirked at the sight because if Lin Beifong has something to say about the matter, then the others must be doing something wrong. Me and Korra looked at Lin confused when she said that she agreed with Korra. She also basically claimed that the rest of council members were being cowards, Tarrlock was willing to hear Chief Beifong out. She offered to provide extra security for the championship match. When Tarrlock questioned what Lin was promising was when I finally started giving my full attention to the meeting , something about his tone didn't sit right with me, and I felt an urge to keep an eye on him. Tarrlock changes his vote and the other three members changed their votes against Tenzin. Korra, Mako, and Bolin cheer, and I smile at their joy, I then see Tenzin ask to talk to Lin outside and I get curious. I eavesdrop on the conversation and here Tenzin talk about Tarrlock's intentions to give the city a reason to doubt Chief Beifong. I knew something about that guy seemed suspicious but I can't help but feel like there is more.

Korra walked towards me and I had to play off my nosiness, she was looking for Lin and I told her where to find her. I looked down the hallway as she attempted to thank Lin for what she did and sighed. Why is it so hard to explain my feelings to her?

(Timeskip)

Before I knew it the time to watch the championship match was here, I walked in the room as Korra was putting her gear on. I don't know what came over me but I was boosted with some confidence and decided to help Korra out a little bit. I went over to her and fixed her gloves, she looked down at me and smiled. "So...how about after this match we finally have that talk we've been meaning to get to." I ask her. "Oh yeah...I've been so busy I couldn't get to you on that but I would love to." Korra said, with a slightly nervous tone. She reached for her helmet but I dodged her before she could take it. I tilted my head up and gave her a kiss on the cheek and she blushed like crazy. I managed to hold in my giggle, because seeing her so flustered was cute. I put her helmet on and strapped on. "I gotta go, Asami saved me a seat in her box, but good luck." I smiled, quickly hugged her and left the room smiling. I entered the private box where Asami and her father were, Asami looked at my slightly flustered state and in the corner of my eye I saw her smirk. "What happened in that room that made you smile like that?" She asked and before I could tell her the introduction for the Fire Ferrets had started. As they came on to the platform Asami blew a kiss to Mako and I just smiled as Korra looked at me after she sighed at Mako's returned affection. I would assume Korra is still slightly jealous given the fact she liked Mako, but I grew jealous because she still cared, and I grew slightly angry given the fact Mako still hasn't told Asami about the kiss Korra and him shared. I would tell her but I don't want to feel like the cause of ruining a relationship, it's Mako's job to be honest to his girlfriend not me. After Pabu's little circus trick, which was cute, The Wolf-Bats were introduced next. I rolled my eyes at their over the top special effects. Tahno and the rest of his team took off their masks and capes and prepared to fight.

The entire first round was filled with nothing but cheating. It angered me to my core, I knew that the ref had to be paid off since he wasn't calling any of these illegal moves. Bolin got knocked off and it was just Mako and Korra left. The two of them got knocked out but Korra grabbed on before they could fall into the water. Korra used her strength to swing Mako back onto the platform as she fell into the water. Mako firebends Tahno and knocks him back. The shock on the Wolf-Bats was priceless when they realized my team doesn't back down that easy.

The second round begins and the Fire Ferrets survive barely. The Wolf-Bats used more ice and illegal headshots but the ref didn't notice a thing, if I had any type of bending I guarantee I would've beat the Wolf-Bats easily. Round two needed to be decided with a tiebreaker and like I thought Korra takes on Tahno. This was a fight I wanted to see, clearly the two had it out for each other. The round began and Korra pulled off the smoothest move I've seen in a while. She faked Tahno out with water going by the side of his head but then hit him from below so he wouldn't notice. Korra taunted him and I cheered and then saw Asami look at my happiness and giggled. I quickly sat down and continued to watch the rest of the match.

The last round and I was confident but that confidence was shut down immediately when the Wolf-Bats continued to cheat. They got a knock out and won. I heard Tahno ask, "Anybody else wanna scrap with the champs?" I wanted to take him up on that offer but I decided to go see my team in the dressing room. I walk down the hall and see a small group of equalist running towards me. My worry instantly goes to Korra and I knew I was going to have to fight my way out. They charge at me with some type of electric stick but I slide between their legs and knock them out from behind. The second and third goon charged at me without weapons and thought to myself, "You guys are making this too easy for me." I jumped up and kicked one of them in the face, then using my arms I held myself up between the two walls. I quickly backflipped away and picked up the device the first equalist had. I easily shocked the both of them and ran to go help Korra.

I got to the dressing room and looked to see where my friends were. I looked down to see them knocked out in the water. I wanted to jump in and save them but I probably would have gotten caught as well. Amon rises on the platform and in that moment my heart stops when his gaze turns away from the reigning champs and towards me. The Wolf-Bats attempted to fight back against Amon but they were tied up as well my friends. I see Pabu and send him to help untied Korra, Bolin, and Mako. Just as I make my way to the roof to find Amon's escape plan I hear a huge explosion coming from inside the arena. All I could do was hope Korra was ok.

Just as I quickly climb my way to the top Korra shots up and firebends two equalists off the lifts. Lin was on top with me as more equalists fell down to attack Korra. Lin aided Korra as best she could but Korra was knocked onto the glass with me. I knew the glass was bound to break sooner or later but I didn't care. Lin tried to hook on to the equalist ship but was attacked by more goons. Me and Korra looked at each other and rushed to help Lin. Korra led with her firebending and knocked one of them down. I jumped on his back and Korra and I attacked from above, she firebended two guys standing behind the main one preparing to attack Lin. As I landed I rushed and side kicked the man away a second before he could shock Lin. He was knocked away but not out of the fight, Korra continued to firebend as he dodged every attack she threw at him. She started chasing after him while I helped Lin get on her feet. The two guys Korra attacked from before rushed her while she was distracted but Lin took care of them she then hooked onto the ship and I went to help Korra. I came from behind after Korra slammed him onto the glass. She ducked and I jumped and kicked him. He was knocked down but stood up, I smirked then side stepped as Korra used her firebending once more knocking him off the glass skylight we were standing on. She landed and the glass cracked beneath us. We fell and Korra grabbed my hand as we did. It felt as if we were falling in slow motion as she locked her sky blue eyes on my (Y/E/C) ones. She then looked up and took hold of Lin's metal cable and she swung us to the stands.

I landed on my feet and Korra tumbled as Lin helped her up she asked if the both of us were ok and thanked her. Mako came running and hugged Korra and I rolled my eyes and smiled at Bolin who brought the four of us into a quick group hug. I quickly looked at the destroyed platform and thought the same thing Tenzin said aloud, Republic City is at war. And my guess is that Amon wants me to choose a side.
