Chapter 11- Under the Mask

(Y/N)'s POV

Me, Bolin, Asami and Mako got off the boat to Air Temple Island. Korra, Jinora, and Ikki greeted us and Meelo said, "Yes, welcome to my domain." I chuckled at his comment and jumped to hug Korra, she hugged back. "Hey" I said with a calm tone. "Hey"She smiled. I looked down at Meelo and rubbed the top of his head. "Hey to you too Meelo." He smiles, "Hello Magical Woman." And I smile back as he runs and plays with Naga's ears. Mako and Bolin go off to find their rooms while Korra, Asami and I go with Ikki. "Asami did you know Korra likes Mako?" She asked Asami and me and Korra looked down with a shocked face. It still hurts knowing that Korra is making wait for an answer. After awkward silence I step into my room while Korra continues to walk with Asami to hers. I sigh and start unpacking my things, I get to finishing and see my Phantom mask on the dresser, I stare at it and start to think of ways to defeat Amon. I could use the distraction anyway.

Korra's POV

Me and Asami enter her room, Asami says it is fine which is good but it still doesn't excuse what Ikki said. "Korra, do you care about (Y/N)?" Asami asks me. "Of course I do." I say, concerned about where this conversation was going. "Then why are you leading her on?" Asami said and honestly I couldn't deny it, if somehow Mako and Asami were to break up I would go for Mako, because he's the safer option, there's less chance of him being hurt. I do like Mako but the more I think about it, I know I can see a future with (Y/N), with Mako not so much. Asami sighs and continues. "I know that everything is weird right now between Mako, me, you, and (Y/N) but please don't hurt her, you of all people should know she doesn't deserve anymore pain or disappointment in her life." I nod but before I could say anything there was a knock, at first I thought it was Ikki being obnoxious but it was Tenzin ready to telling me about the new chief of police.

Somehow I got (Y/N) to join me and Tenzin, I felt like she needed to be there to hear about how Amon is going to be handled. After the new police chief' speech I had to deny Tarlock's offer to rejoin the taskforce but then he asked (Y/N), "...I'm sure although a non-bender I'm sure you could prove useful with your skills." He said. "Thanks, but I'm gonna have to pass, if Amon wants me he can come get me himself, I'm not chasing after a coward." She said and I was smirking and then I stepped closer to Tarlock, "You need me, but I don't need you, I'm the Avatar." Tarlock then asked about my airbending training and it struck a nerve. "Look I don't care who you are, I guarantee you that she's twice the bender you'll ever be." (Y/N) said with venom in her tone. Tarlock warned us to stay out of his way and walked. I felt Tenzin and (Y/N) touch my shoulders while I looked down at the ground.

(Y/N)'s POV

When we got back to the island Korra went off on her own, Me, Mako, Bolin, and Asami went to find her since it was getting dark. By the time we found her I could tell she was crying. If she would just let me be there for her maybe we wouldn't be in this messed up cycle of overthinking our feelings. To cheer her up we declared ourselves the new team Avatar, then Meelo farted and interrupted our friendly moment and we all laughed. Me and Asami got our gear which was Asami's electric glove. I grabbed my Phantom cloak and put it over my black clothing along with the equalists shock sticks I collected back at the Sato mansion. "Wow, you look amazing" Asami said. "Are you sure they won't think it's scary or creepy." I asked and she assured me that the rest of our friends would think the same as her. We stepped out and I saw Korra staring at me in awe, and I couldn't help but smirk. Before we tried to ride Naga I whispered a little remark in Korra's ear with new found confidence, "See something you like?" I asked her and her face turned into a tomato. I laughed and went back over to Asami who had her eyebrow raised. "What? I had an opportunity." I said and she giggles. "After our failed attempt of riding Naga me and Asami had another idea. The garage opened and it relieved my motorcycle that Asami helped me fix and a Sato mobile. As much as I love fighting, engineering and being a mechanic was a close second on my list of passions. We sped off and before we knew it we were in the city. We were driving and listening to the police scanner radios, when the equalist raced past us on a different street.
