Luke POV

"Are Bethany and my babies okay"?

"Umm Mr.Hemmings you have to understand that what Im about to tell you, the hospital couldn't help. "So yes theres good news", she paused biting her lip, "but theres also bad news".

"Okay"? I barely whimpered.

"Umm Ms.Rose will be fine but most likely there will be permeant scars on her wrist and stomach. As for the twins they will both live, the girl, Izzy will come out without any damage, but for the boy it had an effect on his brain. Masons brain was cut down to about 2/3 of what it used to be. Mason was in the position closest to were Maddie had got beat or stabbed. Your lucky it wasn't more Mr. Hemmings. Mason will not be slow or mental but while he is little and learning he will not learn as fast as the other kids."

"Is- Is that all"? I hadn't realized how much I had already loved the kids without even knowing them until slow tears slid down my cheeks.

"Yes". She replied then whispered "Hey its going to be alright". She rubbed my back providing comfort. "Bethany is unconsciousness at the moment but when she wakes up we will call you."

"Is there any way I could see her or just sleep in the same room as her"?

"Since you both have no one to go to but each other we might be able to make an exception, please follow me".

I trailed after the woman in the yellow and white scrubs as we made our way to a dim room marked E17. I stepped inside the door ready to see Bethany beaten and bruised once again but was surprised when I saw her face was no longer puffy and she had bandages over her wounds, the only part they hadn't fixed was that she still looked pale and ill. I prayed that that will go away in time. I slowly made my way over to wear she was laying with a tight fitting mask over her nose and mouth. I watched as the air from her mouth made the plastic mask foggy then clear, for what seemed like ages. I held her hand until the nurse from before came in and told me that I could sleep on the chair that reclined in Bethany's small room. She returned with a pillow and a blanket. I laid there staring at the blank tv screen, I could turn it on but I would rather hear her breath, Im thankful, I never thought I would hear that sound again.
