"Noona~ Wake up~"

I hear the sounds of curtains opening and sunlight hit my face. I cover my face with my blanket and groan in annoyance.

I feel someone hug me from the side and I turn around.
"Noona, wake up."
"It's Sunday, Chan... let me sleep in..."

He shakes his head and tries to take the blanket off my body. He unfortunately suceeds.

"C'mon, I made you breakfast."
I make a confused face and finally sit up. "What? Why?" I ask.
This isn't like Chan.

"It's your birthday! How could you forget?" Chan says and places a tray of food on my lap.

Chan's never done this on other celebrations. It seems unusual.
However, it all happened so fast, so I didn't ask questions and ate my food.
"Eat up, we're going out." He says.

"Can't we stay in like we always do?" I say, still trying to fully wake up.
Chan makes his way out of our bedroom.
"Nope." he says cheerfully and closes the door.

I finish my breakfast and change into a blouse and black pants. I find Chan waiting at the front door.

I grab my jacket and he opens the door for me. "Chan, are you feeling okay today?" I ask worridly.

"What do you mean?"
I walk out.
"Well, you don't do these kinda things on my brithdays or our anniversaries." I say as I lock the door.

"Well, I'm doing this to show how much I appreciate you." He kisses my cheek.
I'm even more confused.

He holds my hand and we get in his car. "So, where are we going?" I ask.
"We're going to Gangnam." Chan says.

"Why?" I ask suspiciously.
"It's a suprise~" he says excitedly.

"Can we just get some coffee?"

"What!?"

"You can buy anything that you want here." Chan says as he smiles.

I scan the store.
It's full of clothes, purses, and shoes, all from designer brands.

"Chan, this is all too expensive." I tell him while holding his hand.
"Don't worry, I'll pay."
Chan holds up his credit card.

"But I can't let you spend this much money on me." I say.
"It's your birthday, Noona! It's okay to spurlge on something."
He pushes me further into the store.

"C'mon, pick something." Chan says.
I walk through the aisles but I can't pick something. I know that I can't change Chan's mind so I look through the whole store, then finally pick something.

He looks quite suprised.
"Really? A belt?" He says almost insultingly. "How about we check out the purses or the shoes?" Chan says and tries to lead me to that direction.

I shake my head.
"No, I really need a belt." I lie.
The truth was, it was one of the most cheapest things in the store.

Chan just agreed and we purchased it.
"Are you sure you don't want anything else? Look, there's a nice jewelry store over ther-"
"No, no, let's go home." I quickly say.

Chan agreed and we went back home.
I thought that was the end.
But boy, I was wrong.

"Ta da!"

Chan removes his hands from my eyes.
"C'mon, let's go inside." He says.

A big black building stands before me. There are no windows so I didn't immediately know what it was until I went inside with Chan.

It was a restaurant.

There were chandeliers over the dining tables and soft classical music was playing.

"Hello, I made a reservation." Chan says to the waitress. She nods and leads us to a table. When we sit down, two men take our coats away.

"Wow this place is posh if they have a whole room just for coats." I say.

Chan nods and a waiter comes to our table and introduces himself. He pours us both a glass of wine and leaves.

Chan raises his glass.
"Happy birthday, Noona."
"Thank you. This is actually kinda nice." I say and we clink our glasses.

"Chan?" I say.
"Hmm?"
"I think we're the only people here who are younger than 40."
Chan looks around and finally notices.
Everyone here is dressed in evening gowns and suits.

"Um, why don't we look at the menu?" Chan suggested. We open the menu and my eyes grow wide.

"Chan, we can NOT afford all of this!" I say.
"Don't worry. I'm gonna pa-"
"No, you are not." I say sternly.

I hold both of his hands.
"I appreciate that you're doing all of this but this is too much, Chan. We don't live a luxorious lifestyle and you know that."

Chan looks down and nods.

"We don't eat out, we don't buy expensive gifts for each other, and we collect coupons."

He nods again.

"What do we usually do for birthdays?"
I ask him.

"We... buy pizza and watch movies."
He says.
"Yes. I don't need all of this to know that you love me." I say reassuringly.

Chan seemed suprised.
"You dropped the L word." He said feebly.
I smile.
"I love you." I say.

"Wait, I was supposed to say it first!"
He whines.

I rolle my eyes.
"Then say it." I tell him.
"I love you." He says quietly.
"What? I didn't hear that." I tease.

"I love you!" He says loudly.
People give is strange looks, but then return to their bussiness.
I laugh and he joins me shortly after.

We leave the restaurant and start to walk home.
"Noona..." Chan says.
"Yeah?"
"You know all those couples on social media that go on fancy dates? I kinda wanted to replicate that because it seemed like the girl liked it so much. So I felt a bit insecure and wondered if I wasn't doing enough for you."

I hold his hand tightly.
"Never think that, Chan. You'll always be enough for me. Giving gifts and going on expensive vacations doesn't always show how much you love someone." I tell him.

Chan nods and kisses my forehead.
"Thank you." He says pleasantly.

"Now, let's get burgers and play Mario Kart."

Sorry this is short, but I think that it's okay. What did you think of this?
(Btw I imagined Chan wearing a plaid trenchcoat and a beret for some reason?)

I try to update every week but school is starting for me, so I'm sorry if they start getting slower.
I'll try to update more from now on.

Have a lovely day, and stay safe.
