– Hey, Aang! What do you think is gonna be for lu- – Katara was talking to Aang after their third period ended.

– Katara, watch out! – Aang tackles her to the ground avoiding a massive fire ball from hitting her.

– What- What was that?! – she asked

– Fire Nation. – Aang said those word as he gritted his teeth and almost spitting out poison.

– What are you gonna do about it...? – Katara asked, her voice trailed off when Aang's eyes started to glow.

– I'm going to protect and restore balance to the world. – says Aang but it had sounded like multiple voices at once.

– A-aang?! – Katara was concerned because his head band flew off and she could see his tattoos glowing.

Aang started Air bending some soldiers away from the school. He then used waterbending to extinguish the fire and he used ice to destroy their tanks.

– Stay away from republic city! – Aang airbended a huge ball around the school which sent all the fire Nation soldiers flying away.

– Aang, stop! You're gonna hurt yourself. – One last fireball hit Aang in the arm and then he froze a cage around them. – Aang! – Katara yelled again, touching his shoulder, and this time she finally caught Aang's attention.

Aang looked into her eyes and saw the fear in them. He realized what he was doing  and calm down, his eyes and tattoos stopped glowing. He fell into Katara's arms and passed out.

. . .

– Aang, Aang. – he could hear Katara's distorted voice. – Aang! – she yelled and he could finally hear her voice clearly.

– Huh? What happened? – he asked as he sat up and looked around. He realized he had been laying on Katara's lap and a small blush coated his cheeks.

– Um... Well, you fought against the fire nation and passed out. –

– Oh. –

– Did I forget to say you went into the avatar state and also waterbent the soldiers? – Aang's eyes went wide. – Why didn't you tell us you were the avatar?! – she whisper yells. Aang looks down and sighs.

– Because- I never wanted to be the avatar... – he said in a low voice.

– But, why? – she asked confused.

– I- I was only 12, I wasn't ready for that type of responsibility. – he says with tears in his eyes. – And I- ran away... Because I was scared, I'm a coward. –

– No you're not. –

– Yes I am! I ran away from my responsibilities... – Aang was hugging his knees while crying in between his sentences. – I ran away because after I found out that I was the Avatar everything changed, nothing was like what it used to be. I wasn't allowed to play games with friends because it was suddenly "unfair", I was forced to train all the time and not have fun. I just wanted a normal childhood but that got taken away. – Katara just listens to him attentively and keeps her arms wrapped around his shoulders.

– Aang, I'm- I'm so sorry you had to go through that, and not only did you not have a normal childhood but you lost the people you love the most. – Aang just keeps crying into Katara's shoulder. – But if it helps... me and Sokka are here for you now. You're not alone anymore. – Aang looks up into into her eyes and Katara gives him a reassuring smile which made him stop crying.

– Thanks, Katara. – Aang buries his face into Katara's neck.

– No problem, anything for you. – she says as she runs her hand through his hair.
