Mark's mother looked up at him with tearful eyes filled with hatred, hating what he had done to Jessie. His father said he saw enough evidence to prove he had killed Jessie, but he didn't remember doing anything to hurt her.
I would've never killed her, Mark thought to himself. Never!
"Mark," He heard his mother's voice when he headed to his sibling's rooms, making him come back.
What?" Mark asked as he glared at her, awaiting for whatever nonsense she had to say.
"Why?" She asked, barely whispering but he heard it.
"Why what?" He asked, knowing exactly where it was headed.
"Why did you burn Jessie?" She asked, louder.
"I bet you my shadowy life that this question has been asked more than a thousand times," The shadow grumbled.
Mark ignored it. "It wasn't me who had done it," He said.
"Blaming me now, huh?" Mark chose to ignore the shadow again.
"Then who burned my daughter?" His mother asked, voice raising.
"My shadow," Mark answered, just like the every other times he answered the same question over and over.
"Please, Mark," More tears ran down her cheeks as she spoke. "Please tell me the truth."
"I didn't kill her!" Mark yelled, making his mother flinch.
"I won't be mad at you!" His mother pleaded. "Please tell me who exactly had done it!"
"I don't know!"
"You didn't do it," The shadow said.
But you did, Mark thought.
"I didn't do anything!" It yelled. "I never wanted her to die!"
Lie! Mark thought, angrily. They are all lies!
"Tell me!" His mother stood up, trembling as she held the picture of Jessie tightly. "Tell me now!"
"I never did it!" Mark shouted, wishing she would shut up.
Mark looked at her, seeing how broken she was. Ever since Jessie was burned alive, his mother was never the same.
"Please..." His mother dropped to floor, covering her face with her hands as she cried.
"For fucks sake!" The shadow yelled, frustrated. "Just end her!"
No! Mark thought.
"Tell me who had done it, please..." Mark's mother sobbed.
"I didn't kill Jessie," Mark spat, then stormed to his sibling's rooms.
"Kill her already!" The shadow yelled as he threw his siblings bags in their rooms, not caring where they landed.
"No!" Mark shouted.
"Kill your father then!" It suggested. "Someone like him deserves to be killed!"
"Can't you ever just shut up!" Mark yelled as memories flooded into his mind.
Mark's father was once a happy and loving husband and father, but there were times when he let his anger control his actions. Mark thought those times were bad when really, what he experienced now with his father was much more worse than what he experienced then.
Because when the shadow appeared, he changed into an entirely different man.
"Blaming me again?" The shadow growled, which Mark ignored again.
