The alarm went off at six am like every morning.
I got up, had my cup of black coffee, put on a skirt and nice shirt and went to work."Mr. Smith your mother called a few minutes ago and I set up your list of calls for the day on your desk." I walked next to my boss.
"Thank you and how many times have I told you Ace, call me Dean." He smiled and went into his office.
Like any day the clock ticked on, I did my work, lunch came and went, then it was time to leave. Just another day at the office.
"Ace are you heading out?" Dean asked, walking past my desk.
"Yeah, uh Mr- sorry Dean, did you ever call your mother back? She said it was urgent." I followed him to the elevator, trying to keep my purse on my shoulder.
"No, I didn't get to it. Remind me tomorrow." He looked down at his phone.
"Okay." I waited at the elevator with him. "Uh I was um wondering, uh can I-"
"Ace just get it out." He smiled.
"Sorry." I pushed my glasses up on my face. "Can I leave a hour early Friday? My sister is coming into town and I have to pick her up."
"You haven't took a day off sense you started working here, of course." The elevator opened and we stepped in.
"Thank you." I looked down at my chipped light blue finger nail polish.
There was another man in the elevator. He was tall and had on the uniform for the people who work in the cubicles. He stared at Dean then me, like he was trying to figure something out.
"Do I know you?" He finally asked Dean.
"I don't think so." Dean shook his head.
"I'm sorry man, you just look really familiar." He shook his head.
"Save it for the health club pal." Dean responded. The elevator doors opened sending Dean and I out.
The next day was the same besides when Dean called me in.
"Ace can you run to the break room and get me a cup of coffee, black." He didn't look up.
"Yes and you told me to remind you to call your mother." I held my hands together, in front of me.
"Remind me tomorrow."
I nodded and went to the break room.
"Ian. Dude." The man from the elevator yesterday said to the man who was in a flannel putting pencils in his pockets.
"So Sam," Ian grabbed the coffee from him. "Have any of those dreams lately?"
Sam turned around, the coffee pot in hand.
"What? Don't be like that, come on, it's the highlight of my day."
"I never should have told you in the first place." Sam poured himself a cup of coffee.
"They're genius, don't hold out on me dude. Share with the class."
I stood behind Ian, waiting for the coffee.
"You're just gonna be a dick about it." Sam turned around, noticing me. "Are you waiting for the coffee?"
"Uh um uh yes." I mumbled, not making eye contact.
He stuck his hand out with the pot of coffee. I took it and went to get a cup that was behind him.
"Come on man, I won't say a word. Go." Ian bugged.
"Fine. I dreamt I saved the Grimm Reaper Tessa from demons." Sam sighed.
"Can I uh have uh cup?" I mumbled.
