The Next Day
La Push

I've been hanging out with Paul all day since Jasper was still hunting with his family, and Bella was hanging out with Jake. Paul and I walked along the beach until we sat down on the sand, watching the waves roll in.

"I love it here. I could stay here all day." I smiled then turned to Paul. "So, Alice has planned a big graduation party. Which you're invited to."

Paul let out a scoff.

"Yeah, I figured that would be your answer." I chuckled. "But Jack will be there. I know he misses the pack since his family came back and he's staying away to make Alice happy."

"Yeah, maybe I'll swing by." Paul shrugged.

I noticed his posture was off today. If his face didn't give it away, his body language definitely would have.

"Is everything okay? You seem..... I don't know..... stand-off-ish?" I asked concerned.

"I just wanted to do this differently." Paul stated. "But I don't know how you'll look at me afterwards."

"Do what?" I shook my head confused. He's making zero sense.

Paul then looked at me for a moment before rubbing my cheek leaning in. I instantly stood up, not going to do this to Jasper.

"Paul, I love you. But only as my best friend." I sighed, getting straight to the point. "I'm really sorry if that sounded bitchy, or, or, too harsh. But I am not going to string you along when I love Jasper with all my heart."

"No, no. I get it. It was a stupid idea anyway."
Paul waved off.

"No, Paul." I sighed. "You were just trying to express your feelings. And I'm glad you can express more than anger, but I'm really sorry. Is this why you were pissed off the other day?"

"Yeah, seeing you and Jasper like that really hurt, and I couldn't bare it." Paul confessed.

"I'm sorry, but I'll make sure if it comes to Jasper being around at some point, I'll make sure to take those feelings into consideration." I said. "But I do have to tell you something, and I don't want you to be mad."

"Shoot." Paul nodded.

"Jasper and I are engaged." I sighed, taking the ring out of my pocket, putting it on its rightful place. I just wanted to be the one to tell him, so I didn't tell the rest of the pack and I monitored what I thought about on patrol.

"Yeah, well, the day I got pissed, I saw you slip it into your pocket." Paul confessed. "I guess I thought if I could express my feelings for you you'd change your mind, but you really do love him."

"I'm so sorry, Paul." I frowned. I left terrible.

"Don't be." Paul shook his head. "You might not be my imprint but you'll always be my best friend, and when you're happy, I'm happy."

"Awww, thanks." I smiled as he pulled me into a hug. "I'm glad we could talk about this and get through it."

"Me too. The last thing we needed was to be in a complicated love triangle like Leah, Sam, and Emily or Jacob, Edward, and Bella." Paul laughed as we pulled away.

"I know right!" I laughed. "What a train wreck!"

Our laughter though was cut short when my phone buzzed.

From: Bella
Please get to Jake's ASAP! Need to go home now!

"Speaking of train wreck, Bella needs me to meet her at Jake's." I sighed.
