So I have recently stumbled upon a conspiracy on this site.
Have you ever noticed that about fifteen or twenty authors on here (I'm not naming names and you shouldn't either) control the vast majority of the reads on this site? They all follow each other, and between them all they have amassed easily over ten million reads. That's a fuck-ton of reads between that few people.
How do they do it? Simple: they don't. These people are so fucking inactive on this site that it's insane. I could understand having like, fifty-thousand followers if you updated every day on an incredible story, but they barely ever update at all. THAT'S THE THING. THEY DON'T NEED TO DO ANYTHING. You all do it for them! Think of when I recommend a book to you, if you're a giant fan (also: hi. I like you). You go read it, right? Probably? Well if someone with one hundred-thousand fans decides to push someone (normally someone else within The Circle), their reads shoot up and BOOM. CONSPIRACY LEVEL. NEW INDUCTEE INTO THE CIRCLE.
So it's not really the authors' fault for writing what people want to read and having devoted fans. I'm not trying to attack the character of these people, most of them are pretty damn nice. Most. The problem I have with the authors is that they're getting all the attention to shitty books, most of the time. Let's be real: most of the popular stuff on here is shit. The Cellar was actually okay. I give that one a pass. It was surprisingly well-written. It wasn't my cup of tea but it's rare that a book is. But the thing the WIC does that sucks so damn much is that they promote SHIT FUCKING BOOKS AND WHEN SOMEONE WRITES SOMETHING REALLY COOL AND DIFFERENT NO ONE SEES IT.
Here's what I'm doing, ladies and about two gents. I'm starting a motherfucking uprising. My good friend @crayonchomper and I are putting a stop to this bullshit. We made an account: @thegreattakeover. We need your help to put an end to this WIC bullshit, alright? So here's what you need to do.
1) Write something cool. Like, a transgender Wiccan superhero story. That would be awesome. Something different than any of this: depression, cutting, white straight couples falling in love, perfect girls, perfect guys, werewolves, alphas. You can use those things but if I read it and it's too generic it won't be accepted.
2) Tag it with #thegreattakeover. I'll read it and if it's awesome and original, I'll push it on the account and on mine if I really like it.
3) Keep writing cool, original shit and start trying to spread the tag. Hopefully it'll start getting unique, original, groundbreaking stories reads instead of the normal hipster bullshit.
