"Y/n!" Jake shouted, scared.
He had heard her screaming, and once inside her room, he realized she was asleep, most certainly having a terrible nightmare.
But after calling her a few times he noticed she wasn't hearing him, and started getting more worried.
He took her by her shoulders, and started slightly shaking her, being careful not to be too harsh.
He had never been in a situation like that one, before.
Even tho she wasn't awake, he could see she was truly afraid, pain and despair in her expressions, as she violently tossed and turned in her sleep.
"Y/n, please, wake up!" he shouted again, shaking her a bit harder "Y/n!"
And suddently, y/n opened her eyes.
She woke up, gasping for air, and sat up straight, immediately bursting into tears.
Jake opened his mouth to say something, but realized he didn't have anything to say, and instead, wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into a tight hug.
"Shhh... it's ok. I'm here" he whispered, slowly caressing her back, as she hid her face in his shirt.
She sobbed loudly, her breath getting shorter, and as he kept her close to him, he could feel her whole body shaking like a leaf.
He felt so bad for her, so guilty he couldn't do more to help her.
"It's ok, y/n, you're safe now" he tried to comfort her.
She slowly moved her hands up, and rested them on his back, hugging him as well.
She felt so scared...
After a while, she started breathing normally again, finally able to calm down, and the sobs became more rare.
She took a deep breath, the last tears running down her cheeks and dying on her cold, trembling lips, as well as on Jake's shirt.
She closed her eyes, and breathed out, letting all the bad thoughts go.
"...Had a nightmare?" he softly asked.
She quickly nodded, still hiding her face against his chest.
"...Do you wanna talk about it?"
She thought about it for a moment, and slowly pulled away, drying off a tear with the back of her hand.
She felt safe in his embrace, but didn't want to make him feel uncomfortable.
"No... not really" she admitted, her voice husky and cracking on every word.
"Ok" he said, understanding.
He softly smiled at her, making her blush a little, and sighed, getting up from her bed.
"I guess I'll... go back to the sofa, then. Call me if you-
"Please, stay" she asked, almost begging him, as she quickly grabbed his wrist.
He froze, confused, and didn't know what to say, or do.
He probably should've said no.
They didn't know each other that well, and he sort of had a crush on her, so it felt like taking advantage of the situation. But then, he saw her eyes. He saw the fear, and desperation, the doubts and questions running around in her mind.
And instead, said "...Ok".
She smiled, pain still painting her features, and another tear fell down her cheek, as Jake quickly, and clumsily, moved to the other end of the bed and lied down next to her.
Suddently, she felt better.
Not because the bad thoughts had gone away, she knew those would never leave. But because she wasn't alone.
Because she knew someone was finally there for her.And yes, she didn't know Jake much, but she knew him enough to trust him, and to feel safe with him beside her.
Y/n lied back down, sighing.
Then she rolled to her side, facing the chocolate haired man, and closed her eyes, resting her head against his shoulder."...Thank you" she whispered.
And she didn't see it, but hearing those words, the detective felt his heart skip a beat, and his cheeks turned of a bright red, as he stared at the white ceiling above him.
He felt as if butterflies were flying around in his stomach, and shyly smiled.
"...No problem" he softly answered.
A/N :/
