"So" said Jake, walking back into the living room "Since we're in a safehouse, there are some rules that you need to know. You might wanna sit down"
"Oh... yeah, sure"
She sat down on the sofa, as the detective walked back and forth in front of her.
"Rule number one: we can't leave the safehouse. Which is pretty obvious, but... you know, I have to say it"
"Yeah... but what happens if we finish our food and supplies? I mean, since we can get out..."
"Good question!" he smiled "Well, every week an undercover officer will bring us our grocieries and stuff, so you don't have to worry about that"
"Ok, great"
"Rule number two: during daytime, we'll have to stay as hidden as possible"
"Hidden?" she asked perplexed.
"Yeah. Since we can't stay with our curtains closed all day, or it would be suspicious, and the less you're seen, the better, we should try not to stay in front of the windows when there's light outside"
"But at night we can, right? Because..."
"Oh, yeah, sure. At night you can do whatever you want" he smiled.
She slightly nodded, still a bit overwhelmed by all that information.
"...Oh, I almost forgot. Rule number three: no phone calls, no messages, no social media... basically, nothing that includes the outside world"
She froze.
"But...""I know, I'm sorry, but it would get us exposed, and we can't risk that. We don't know who we have against"
She thought about it for a moment.
"And what about my friends, my job...""Your boss has already been informed, so don't worry, your job is safe. About your friends... I'm afraid you'll have to wait until you come back"
She looked down at her feet, sadness spreading through her features.
"...I know, sorry..." the detective said, trying to comfort her.
She sighed.
"Well, at least I'm not here alone" she smiled, making him blush a little."Yeah" he said, a bit flustered "Don't worry, it'll be fun. I have loads of movies we can watch, videogames we can play..."
"I noticed" she giggled, looking at the cartboard full of dvds and stuff like that that lied in a corner of the room.
"Talking about movies... you wanna watch one?" Jake proposed.
She thought about it for a moment.
Suddently, all the bad thoughts came back: her apartment burning down, the idea that someone might have wanted her dead..."Sorry, I... I t-think I'm gonna go to sleep. I-I'm not really feeling in the right mood..."
"Oh..." he said, trying to hide his disappointment "...Yeah, sure. It's been a long day, you better get some rest"
She got up from the sofa, sighing.
"I'm really sorry...""No, no, don't worry, it's ok. I get it" he reassured her "...Goodnight, Y/n"
"Goodnight, Jake" she softly replied.
She slowly walked towards her room, the little energy left in her tired body dripping out with every step she took.
"If you need anything, I'll be here" the detective said.
"Thank you" she shyly smiled, before disappearing into the bedroom and closing the door behind her.
