Note: On his triumphant return, Percy had instantly become the hottest topic with Olympian goddesses, all minor and two other major ones.
Artemis was a bundle of mixed emotions. On one hand, she was extremely happy that he was home where he should be. On the other hand, she was upset as he was not with her, was married to three beautiful women hence might not notice her subtle displays of affection towards him owing to his loyalty. Furthermore, he already had two kids from his wives which were rightfully supposed to be hers. Fourthly, he had matter of fact sworn an oath on the Styx that would see him distance himself from her romantically, preventing her from expressing her true feelings for him to him.
Note: She was already certain that by his very nature(I.e. his loyalty and upbringing)he would never go near her hunters romantically except she expressly gave her permission, even then he would find it extremely difficult to do so, hence she was not concerned about it.
She was worried about these things yet comforted by the fact that he was immortal, therefore she had all the time in the world to hatch a plan to get him and one was quickly forming in her head. No one knew of this, but Artemis was very possessive when it came to Percy, so one or another she was going to get him. She was finally going to have him all to herself for an extended period of time.
She would have to deal with the new blockage in her plans quickly.
Two options lay before her as follows:
1. Summon Lady Styx and invalidate his vow behind his back without his knowledge, while he continues thinking the vow is still active. Later she would tell him she got rid of said vow.
2. Disregard the vow entirely, make him her own and then face the consequences for that later.
Number 2 would make him hate her greatly rather than love her, which she did not want at all.
She would handle the situation once he officially joined the Hunt.
The Plan
Zeus with the agreement of all the gods summoned the Fates, asking them to resurrect Orion, and give him an army of monsters, so that they would attack the Hunt, thereby leading Perseus to intervene to help them since he hated Orion with a passion.
To set things rolling, Zeus called a phony emergency council meeting knowing that Percy would respond immediately.
Artemis already knowing of her dad plan went to Olympus for the meeting. As planned earlier, she left Thalia in charge of the Hunt and thus the trap was set according to plan. He then removed the barrier Artemis had erected around the Camp with her consent(provided that Orion would be sent back to Tartarus after the charade or better yet faded), this enabled Orion and his forces to surround the Camp undetected, as a result of this the Hunt was outnumbered:
70,000: 800,000.
Thalia quickly sent an urgent call for help to Artemis informing her that they were under attack from an army of monsters led the giant Orion numbering about 800,000. Before flashing down there she asked Perseus for help in dealing with the giant, he agreed wholeheartedly(unaware of the plan, because they told him their decision but did not say how it would be executed) gaining a sinister gleam in his eyes.
With the wind around him interspersed with lightning, darkness, water, earth and fire. He descended down to the battlefield destroying 780,000 of the enemy forces in his wake. His face was the definition of fury. Emotionless, lips curled up in a wicked snarl like a predator bearing down on his prey who he knows is cornered with no where to run. Steps purposeful, eyes blazing(his eyeballs vanished leaving only sea green irises), body pulsating with power, he uttered these bone chilling words to Orion, his voice echoing to the surrounding:
"You Attacked The Wrong Place Giant, That Is The Hunt Which Is Part Of My Domains!, An Attack Here Is Considered A Personal Attack On Me!! Your Sentence Is Death!!!
Thereafter, he proceeded to behead him thus sending him back to Tartarus, the only sign that he had been there was the familiar golden dust.
The hunters sans Artemis without being prompted followed his example proceeding to vanquish the remaining monsters without mercy, and luckily for them no causalities were recorded.
Reactions
Artemis just stood there stunned, his display of power always took her breath away back when he was just a son of Poseidon, now he had mixed it up perfectly showing all sides of his parentage.
Contrary to popular belief(I.e the Hunt's middle strata or group), she did not have a look of fear or hatred in her eyes instead it was pride, respect and love.
Her expression mirrored that of all Olympians(especially his wives and children) except Ares as they watched.
Note:
The first group of the group of the Hunt is aged between 16-28.
The middle group is aged between 13-20.
The Youngest group is aged between 6-12.
The Younger and older generations mobbed him, unshaken by the display.
The middle group however, had looks of undisguised disgust as well as fear on their faces, to them he was the manifestation of their worst nightmares.
Presently
Those words from Perseus would change the status quo. Artemis having recovered from her awe, seized the opportunity, informing her hunters that from that day onward Perseus Achilles Jackson would stay/travel with them for Six months as their guardian in light of the fragile state of things in the godly world, that was the decree of the Olympians.
Furthermore, the gods would interact with the Hunt more because of Perseus which meant them seeing more of their parents
It was agreed that Percy would do his own share of work to assist, but he was prohibited from Camp unaccompanied. Thalia to that end, volunteered to be his chaperone to which her four companions added themselves.
Artemis was happy, finally she and Percy could their nightly hunts as they did at Camp Olympus intermittently before he disappeared to Alaska. They were tied up with a 100 hunts each, now they would make time to settle the score. Plus she would confess her feelings for him to him.
Later that night
Perseus after settling in, decided to change his appearance, foregoing his Sixteen year old appearance, replacing it with that of a Forty year old man, hair tied in a ponytail, clean shaven face replaced with an anchor white beard, short messy hair giving way to long straight platinum blonde hair. His build and height still remained the same.
Back on Olympus: Goddess number 2's thoughts on Percy
Athena respected Percy from the beginning of his quests. He had lessened her fury against his father Poseidon by his nature. Firstly, she was looking for different ways to taunt her rival through his son, when she discovered he was an avid reader like herself from observing him.
To see if her eyes were deciving her, she visited him unannounced. She found him seated reading Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, on the table beside him were The Merchant Of Venice, The Tempest and Hamlet.
On the shelf were different books comprising Governance, Culture, Art, Finance Military strategy Foreign Affairs and Diplomacy etc.
It was here their tradition of sneaking out of Camp Olympus to read in her library and discuss matters began. In the process, she also gained a sparring partner.
As a bonus of it, they have lunch or dinner together depending on their schedules at a particular time.
Athena knew that everyone was intelligent in their own way but seeing all that, revealed a new side of Percy she never looked hard enough to see. He sought knowledge even more than her own favorite daughter, in reality, he was smarter than most people gave him credit for but he hid it well behind a solid façade of
1. Clumsiness
2. Impulsiveness
3. Playfulness
In other words, he was a master of disguise. As she keenly observed most times he would not share his vast experience and knowledge with his friends, so as not to anger Annabeth who prided herself as the intelligent one of the Seven.
It was the reason why she took his sudden disappearance so hard that she partook in Dionysus domain to deal with it.
The unthinkable had happened, there was no logical explanation for it..., Athena had fallen in love for the first in millennia and more importantly with Perseus Achilles Jackson the very person she wanted to humiliate to get back at her rival.
