Red.
That was all Classic could see.
The midst of the eve, when he should have been deep in slumber, he found himself in the snowy fields. Smoke had flooded the air, suffocating the wildlife. Flames cracked into the silence as the darkness was lit by the dim glow of the destruction. Screams brought chills, a horrifying scene playing in Classic's mind as he continued onward. His arms held a small frame tightly as he ran into the night. He knew not where he was to go, only that escape was his only option. How his life had crumbled in the blink of an eye.
The sound of sudden sobbing filled the cabin as Toriel had been invested in her books. She carefully placed the bookmark within before rising from her chair. She knew from where the sound originated from. The oldest had suffered from nightmare's for the length of their stay with her. Even though they had brought mystery to her doorstep, she felt a desire to protect them. The youngest was barely over ten and the oldest was far from able to care for the child.
Her fingers gently turned the doorknob before she pulled the door to, her eyes landing on Classic curled in a ball. His slim legs pressed to his chest as frantic breathing cut the silence away. Slowly moving in his direction, she placed a soft hand on the oldest head. His eyes softened as he looked to his visitor. A broken smile played over the small creatures expression, tears staining a spotless face.
For months Toriel had tried to convince Classic to open up. He was suppressing his pain, causing the effects of the nightmare to increase ten folds. It was saddening to watch. She wanted to help, but if Classic refused to open up she could do nothing.
"Did you have a bad dream, my child?" Classic nodded slightly as Toriel took the spot on the edge of the bed. Her hands reached for the small creature, arms pulling him into an embrace. The warmth tensed the skeleton before he seemed to relax. His sobbing fell quiet as exhaustion flooded his small frame. Toriel rubbed his back, humming as she felt him begin to drift off once more.
Ten minutes she had soothed the creature before tucking him under the sheets. His face was relaxed, at peace in his own mind. His soft snores were a harmony in the silence that had returned. Toriel smiled before she traced a finger over the petal shaped image beside Classic's eye. She had asked about it in the past, but always came up short of an answer. Whatever the children's past may have been, their silence ensured that she truly didn't want to know the answer.
Removing her finger, she bent low before placing a kiss on the skeleton's head. There was a smile that flashed over the small creature's face before Toriel turned to leave. She glanced back once more before closing the door on her way out. She truly hoped the child would find peace for the remaining of the eve.
The moment daylight broke past the curtains, Classic stirred silently from his slumber. He found himself enveloped in warmth. Pulling the sheets from his slender frame, he gently swung his legs from the mattress. The cold wood sent chills up his spine as his hand pushed him from the comfort. His eyes fell onto the mirror, his reflection staring back. The sight only brought about regret and anger. He gave a dissatisfied look before he scanned through the closet. He snatched a blue cloak along with a semi-long dress. Toriel had made the clothes by hand, leaving Classic no choice but to wear the attire. It wasn't that he hated it, but that no one else could admire him. He felt caged.
Sliding into the tight fabric, Classic clipped the cloak around himself before exiting the room. He could hear Papyrus' laughter, a gentle smile forming on his features. Classic entered the kitchen to find Toriel cooking with his little brother. The small skeleton was excited, joy apparent on his face.
"Good morning Paps! How did my splendid brother sleep?" Classic's voice drew wide eyes as Papyrus sprinted into his brother. The sudden weight knocked Classic to the floor, Toriel's laughter filling the silence. Even Classic found himself laughing as Papyrus smiled up to his brother.
