The morning had been dreadful for Nightmare. The constant glares and anger leaking from Killer left the air awkward between the two. He was aware he had gone against Killer in visiting Classic. Even so, he didn't regret the decision. His choice brought him someone dear to his life. He finally had value that he was willing to fight to protect.
Nightmare leaned on the counter of the island as he tapped his finger tip off the cool material. His eyes scanned over words and images scrawled over paper. Horror had entered only to grow curious. It wasn't like Nightmare to dedicate time into anything beside ruling. Slowly he approached, gaze dropping over his King's shoulder. Nightmare gave a quick glance before returning to his documents.
"What ya doin?" There was a silence before hands offered Horror the pages. Raising an eyebrow, he carefully took it before laughter fell from him. The sound drew anger from Nightmare as he hissed low, Horror silencing himself.
"I wanted to ask Killer his opinion, but he isn't talking to me. Instead, I'll ask you."
"I think it's a wonderful idea. It's been years since this gloomy castle had life to it, so why not party. How did you know it was Classic's birthday?" Nightmare smiled lightly as he glanced out the window above the sink. His mind ran through every scene from Classic's dream. "Never mind my question. Can I ask you something?"
"Hmm?" A silence ensued as Horror moved closer, his gaze growing firm.
"Why did you allow Classic to stay? You're against anything pure, so he should be everything you hate!" A soft sigh slipped from Nightmare as his eyes grew saddened. He leaned his head back slightly before giving a forced laugh.
"Would you believe me if I said I wanted to change?" Horror widened his sockets, confusion expressed on his face. "I'm tired of being a bad person. The kid opened my eyes, allowed me to view the good as something more than annoyance. I want to change and give him something to hold onto, a place to call home without fear of it vanishing once more."
"You care about him, I can tell. I say we go ahead with your plans. Let me talk to Killer and sway him, okay? I need to know with all seriousness though... Do you truly mean your words? If you meant everything, protect him with your life. People like him are bound to wander into trouble, so treasure him and watch over him. Killer may be like his mother figure at this point, but he is quite fond of you." Nightmare glanced toward Horror before nodding.
"I meant every word. I've never been more drawn to someone. Also, how do you know he's fond of me?" Horror stifled a laugh as he grinned. His hand brushed over Nightmare's shoulder before he waved, leaving Nightmare confused. He wanted to call after his friend, but he was gone before words could leave his mouth. He sighed heavily as he turned once more toward the papers. A soft smile morphed on his face as he continued planning. He hoped Classic would enjoy the surprise.
Killer had been seated on the bed listening to Classic hum lightly. The melody brought waves of joy. The song seemed old, unknown to him. He had wanted to ask about Classic's origins, but words failed him in every attempt. Worry was his emotion every time he believed he had the courage.
"Hey Killer, can I ask you something?" Classic's voice drew Killer from his own mind as he nodded, a saddened expression crossing Classic. "Why do you keep me from Nightmare? It's not like he will hurt me..."
"You don't know him. He's not known to hold kindness in his soul, so..." Killer was cut short when he heard movement. His gaze dropped toward Classic, anger dyeing his face. His mouth quivered as he clenched his hands.
"He's not a bad person! He was kind to me and while you may hold more time with him, he is someone entirely different to me. Whatever he was before we met, I don't think that is him anymore. His air is gentle, his smile calming, and his voice charming. You are important to me, but so is he. Give him a chance to change, please?" Killer reeled back as Classic stared him down. The sight left doubt in himself. He was aware of his choices. Locking Classic from Nightmare in his mind was to protect him, but even he was aware there was change coming. Nightmare had been different for weeks now. It was simply unsettling seeing someone heartless become gentle toward someone so positive. It brought fear that even if Nightmare changed, one day he may revert back.
