Classic had awoken in his own bed, tucked under the warmth the blankets offered. He wasn't sure how he had got to the bed, but he assumed Nightmare had done it. Slipping from the comfort, Classic pressed his bare feet to the cold cobble floors. The rug had been removed merely a week ago and had yet to be replaced. Even so, Classic didn't really mind. He rarely found himself sleeping in his room to begin with. Killer would insist he sleep in his room as a way to keep him safe. He was like a mother to Classic.
Quietly Classic opened the door before entering the hallway. He could hear the eerie silence, a sign most had gone to rest for the night. All except Nightmare. HE was in his office once more, awake and sorting through papers. Classic stumbled over before opening the door slowly. Nightmare's back was to him, a smile creeping over Classic's expression. Quietly he walked over before he flung his arms around Nightmare's neck. The king flinch, jumping slightly as he gave a startled expression to Classic.
"What are you doing up this early?" Classic raised an eyebrow before shrugging.
"Couldn't sleep. I'm going to assume you've yet to even get a wink of sleep in the past few days. You know it isn't healthy, right?" Nightmare nodded as he again focused on his documents. The sight sent irritation coursing through Classic. Sighing, the smaller skeleton approached Nightmare by the front, his hands gently prying the documents away. Nightmare gave a displeased look, but that expression lasted mere seconds as Classic took the spot on his lap. He could feel Nightmare tense slightly.
"Classic, I have papers to read and documents to sign..."
"You can stop doing that for merely an hour, okay? I want to talk to someone and you're the only person up!" Nightmare sighed as he leaned back in the chair.
"Why not wake someone?" Classic turned slightly, his legs now moving to each side of Nightmare. He stuck his feet through the gaps in the chair before leaning into Nightmare.
"Maybe I simply wished to speak to you, no one else."
"Ah, your true motives!" Nightmare chuckled before he placed a hand on Classic's head. He moved his palm lightly over the skull as humming filled the silence. It was relaxing. Classic struggled to remain awake as he listened intently. He'd not have expected Nightmare to have a good vocal range, so the humming was a shock. It was still wonderful to him, a melody to his own ears.
They remained silent as the time ticked on. It was peaceful for both. Classic had repositioned himself, his eyes glancing out the window. Nightmare's office rested beside the backyard, the echo flowers glow illuminating the fields. Even Nightmare had shifted his gaze to the flower. It had been his only gift he had ever received and it was precious to him. He treasured the flower as well as Classic. Both were the light in his world of darkness.
"Hey Nightmare... Can I request something from you?" Nightmare glanced toward Classic before nodding. The smaller skeleton seemed nervous, but still spoke his mind. "I have a brother living on the outskirts of Dream's kingdom. I wanted to know if he could live here. I hate being separated and I don't wish to leave you all, so I want to find an alternative."
"You don't need to ask. Simply telling me would have the same outcome. I can fetch him this week and bring him here. Tomorrow should suffice. I'll send Killer out to retrieve your brother." Classic felt joy swarm him. His eyes lit up as a smile pressed deep to his features. He hugged Nightmare, his tears trailing his skull before vanishing into the fabric of Nightmare's attire.
"Thank you... I owe you everything..." Nightmare listened to the soft tone. He gave a sad smile before his hand gently eased Classic's head upward. He forced him to look at him, his thumb gently swiping away the trail of tears.
