Why Do My Powers Hate Me?

Whenever I fly, I usually use the wind to give me a boost and also pull moisture from the air to make sure I don't get tired. Today, however, was not the case. I was supposed to fly hundreds of miles without much of a boost. Luckily I was able to get the moisture, but without the upgrade that Pontos gave me, it sucks to even attempt it. This is why I have been abstaining from going into the field.

I was above another forest when I started to get tired. I was almost to the capital too, considering my fastest flying was 10 times the normal birds average, and that was what I was flying.

"No, no, no, no. Oh, no." My muscles stiffened, and I started going down. I tucked in my wings to prevent too much damage to them. I tried to pool water on the ground, but all I could do was a small puddle. I crashed through the trees while yelling profanities at the top of my lungs. Unfortunately, I was cursed with the knowledge that if any possible footage of that crash landing got out, I would lose most, if not all, my followers. Not that I cared.

I rolled on the floor while cursing my existence. Straight off the bat, I knew that my arm was very badly broken, not to mention the several cuts and bruises I got from the trees and the landing. As I stood up, I noticed the very, very sharp pain in my left ankle, quickly realizing that it was sprained, I put all my weight on my right foot. I MMed Luke to see how they were holding up and to tell him that backup would be a little late.

I looked at my watch (kinda like an Apple Watch, but it's another piece of Void Tech) which was able to act as a compass. I matched it up with the map I got earlier and began walking to the nearest marked river.

I used the river to get to the nearest city, but since I didn't trust my powers, I took a cab the rest of the way to the capital.

"Are you sure you wanna be here, Ms?" the cab driver asked as he heard the gunshots and sounds of metal on metal from sword fighting.

I pulled out Riptide in pen form and smirked. "Yes." I got out of the cab and uncapped Riptide. I ran towards the battle while staying low. I ducked behind one of the barricades and found Marisol there.

"Mom! You made it!"

"Of course I did, I wasn't about to leave my daughter out in a battle." She hugged me. Her knife was placed by her side, but I had to pull away because someone was coming up. My grip on my sword tightened.

"Are you going to help fight, or just crouch behind here for the rest of the battle?" Luke asked as he ducked behind the barricade next to us.

"You're one to talk, you got us into this mess!" It seems Marisol got my sass. Laughing, I got up and ran to the nearest guy. I disarmed and disabled him before moving on to the next guy, I was lucky that most of the gunmen were distracted by the others. I looked around after knocking out another guy. I saw Marisol allow herself to get in a chokehold before flipping the guy over and breaking his back. I almost felt bad for the guy.

The hairs on the back of my neck stood up, and, in one of the rare moments where my powers work in full effect (this year at least), I ducked just as a knife flew over my head. The guy who tried to stab me in the head got a dagger in his side courtesy of my delightful charm bracelet.

The fight went on for a few more minutes, and I, having not been in the field for nearly a year, got fancy with my fighting moves. The sad part was that I couldn't do a lot of power-based maneuvers like the "Jedi Flip" or the "Smiting Angel."

Close to 10 minutes later, we finished up the battle.

"That went longer than I expected," Luke said as he sheathed his sword and dusted his clothes. I don't know why if it was the slightly volatile blood of free-lance Quilixians. "You were slow today, and you barely used your powers."
