BERNARD GRAY

The first time I met this young man , I thought he was calm and quite jovial , but little did I know that he was the the opposite.   A young man who was really full off life, agile and really cunning too.
"You too aren't a match".. that's what people always say when our characters are been watched.

Bernard Gray was a year older than me. He was a thin tall young man who had a funny looking face, but don't let the cheeky appearance fool you. He had an Afro hairstyle which he kept which made him quite handsome and good looking.
Like I said earlier on " Cunning ". Twice Bernard had been caught trying to escape from the sights of Sir' Richard. He was caught and flogged like a naughty Bull.  He was also a sensitive kind of person who couldn't be easily maneuvered by others.   A smart gentle lad I would say.

A well cultured young man who always appreciated the good others showed to him., No wonder he always said " Never take for granted the love shown by your fellow human ".    He was also a fast learner, he could speak two different languages perfectly, namely " Portuguese and English " precisely.  You might wonder though..., how was he able to speak Portuguese ?.  He fled from the hands of his master while in Portugal. He lived in Portugal for about three before he fled for the English land.

Its quite odd though he has tried running away from his master but has the trust of that same man. When asked why he tried running away he answered saying " wouldn't you want to see the beauty of mother earth ?. Or you'll love to sit and stare at the birds of the heaven as the fly with freedom on their wings".    Bernard Gray' really wanted to attain freedom from slavery. So also did I too wanted it so badly.

Many at times he had picked up fights by the arrogant Rudy who never liked any glimpse of Gray.  Look young master Rudy.., the least I get for having a manly fight with you is been deprived of food or been beaten.   To be honest Rudy dreaded the young man.

"One day... one day... I tell you oh Thomas, we the black souls will attain freedom., but to achieve it won't be easy. The only way is to fight and fight really had even if it cost our very lives"   Gray would always say. He was really hungry and desperate for freedom.
But how man ?. I asked.    We run away from here and join hands with those who fight for liberation and equality. He replied.
Run !. You want to run ?. I asked naïvely.    Replying me with all eagerness and seriousness " Yes., Thomas.. and this time, trust me.. there will be flaws left behind". He said patting my on the back.

I knew Gray was desperate and was ready to execute his plan and I was ready to follow through it. But one thing ran down my mind ...., fear of failure.

Ohh I've said too much about Bernard's risky plan. Well from his descriptive qualities you could see he was a brave and desperate kind of person who never allowed failure weigh down his every plan. "Failure he would say is really the best teacher. You can fall and make mistakes many times., but never let it crush your dream but instead learn from it and teach yourself for what is yet to come".

I really held on to those wise words from a cunning and brave friend.

Let's see how life treated me.
