I was woken up by a cold body clutching on my back. It felt like an ice block carved out of an iceberg. I turned around to see what it was. Fear gripped me as I saw a still soul looking into my eyes without making a slight shift or noise. Fear pushed my sweat dripping body a back as I cried out for help.
What boy ?. Asked a soldier as he violently opened our door. The rays from the outside world lights gave way for the number of corpses in our room. One of the soldiers exclaimed loudly "Look! Corpses" everyone were shocked to see the men who were once sick., now dead. Tears flowed down my eyes as I saw eight men lying dead on the cold wooden floor.'Give way., Give way., commanded a high ranked soldier as he ordered the corpses be brought out. We were forced to take the corpses outside to the wooden deck. Tears of villagers loomed the entire ship as they were flogged to stop their wailing cries.
'What should we do with them sir ?. Asked a soldier as he was replied back with a slap on the face. "You're a fool!., to the sea with them. Corpses have no place on my ship" said the high ranked soldier. Another soldier retorted back saying., " we can't do that sir. Why don't we take them to our destination and bury them their". Looking at the soldier keenly, the high ranked soldier said " you're trying to thwart my authority., right ?." No sir' replied the soldier. I have no superior on this ship and you do what I please. Unless you'll love going down with this corpses" the high ranked soldier said.
"Hull the corpses overboard!!!" Instructed the official.
Seeing as our village men were picked to be thrown into the sea. The mighty men amongst us gave a charging fight., some pleaded the corpses not be hulled into the sea. We the young and weak ones watched in fear.
Ahh' shouted one of the villagers who offered himself to fight off the soldiers. Was hit on the head with a gun fell off to the wooden deck unconscious. We looked onwards as this brave man was lifted up, and like the others was hulled into the sea. We all cried and felt pity for the men. 'Oh., who knows tomorrow, I might be the one hulled into the sea. Said a boy who had been drowned with fear. I too felt the same way 'who knows what laid ahead for us tomorrow'. I thought 'hope or dejection'.
'What are you all looking at ?. Get back to your rooms. Instructed a soldier as we rushed down into our rooms. My mama' my papa' wailed one boy as he cried "who knows what has happened to them'. I too thought of mother and sister what might have happened to them too. I prayed for their safety.
A soldier came in our room and threw a sack which contained some amounts of wheat bread. He said annoyingly " eat!, our food reserve are getting slim., we don't mind welcoming more bunch of dead guys ". He left laughing annoyingly. We never minded his words. We pounced on the bread as though it was an innocent prey. I ate but not to a fill.
Sitting down back on the floor. A boy started cheering us up with his humorous stories which almost 'cracked my ribs'. I laughed heartily forgetting I was in a shamble. Later I started to feel a bit sleepy and then fell of into sleep.
