I was awaken by a slap on the back. What is it ?. I jumped up out of fear. You fainted., and besides... Good morning Bernard said feeling a bit cautious. Its morning already ?. I asked out of shock and disbelieve. Yes it is. I think its due to the trauma we all faced last night that sent you into an unconscious state, Thauvan said. Now where do we go from here ?. I asked. There's a beem of light coming from the rear end of this tunnel, I guess it will lead is out. Bernard said feeling really sure. How so I protested back. Why don't we leave the tunnel and sneak through the villages and get our way into Glasgow. The reply I got was enough for me to take in that day. Are you out of your mind ?. You and know we're been wanted in the villages, and you're talking of we sneaking our way through. Thomas... I think you have a low sense of precaution. This tunnel is the only way out and the safest. Bernard said angrily.
I had no choice than to go with them through the tunnel. Besides he was right., we're been wanted in the villages. And who amongst us would dare going back there. Thauvan said "its like you putting yourself up for execution".
Look man., I'm way too tired. We have been walking these tunnel for hours and I see no end. I protested out of tiredness and stress. All my life in the village I never knew there was a tunnel. We would get to the end. Don't let your guard down Thauvan replied back. Come to think of it. Thauvan , how did you know there's a tunnel here ?. Cause I too agree with Thomas that never knew there's a tunnel here. Well you know Gray., Master is a Lawyer by profession. And you know he works with the royal court. I one time saw a map which was lying carelessly on master bed in his room. I studied it and drew a copy of it. Why because Bernard was planning an escape plan. I even discovered it was an old and abandoned tunnel which was used as a channel for water to flow through to a dam. But it has now been diverted. Thauvan said.
Why didn't you tell us ?. I and Gray protested.
Well I don't know but the thing is were safe and in a hidden place close to our attackers who do no know where. Thauvan said. Hm m... That's brave and clever on your part. Nice one. I commended him. By the way here's the forged map. Said Thauvan. We carefully went through it and within three hours we found our way out safely. Thanks man you really did well. Myself and Bernard thanked Thauvan for the effort he putted in place. But there was a problem.
Before us lay a dam. The biggest I have ever seen in my life. And besides there was the new tunnel just the other side of the dam.
How do we get out of here. Bernard asked. Looking at him and laughing I hurriedly dived my way into the water and began swimming to the other end. Thauvan did the same. And Bernard just stood there looking onwards.
Come on in Man. Can't you swim ? I asked. Sure I can swim. But not in this. He said. Look!!! the village guards are behind you Bernard !. Thauvan shouted lyingly. Before he could finish his sentence , Bernard was in the dam swooping the waters quickly even swam ahead us. Thauvan laughed heartily. Only for Bernard to turn around and saw there was no guard pulling towards us.We got to the other end and continued our journey.
We got to the woods were we were faced with another trauma. Look!!! Wolves everywhere.
Although they the were a pack of wolves who were having an afternoon nap. We tiptoed our way through them and got to the other end safely. Only for one of them to growl and shaking itself violently., it seems its having a terrible dream' I said. But we quickly hid ourselves beside a fallen tree. The wolf stood up, yawned and walked directly to where we hid ourselves and climbed the tree. Using its feet to scratch itself for some few seconds. It then did its worse. Raising one of it's back legs it urinated on my head is I was left drenched in urine. Then it left and returned back to its sleeping ground.
I was disgraced. I stood up and ran to a stream down the woods and washed myself while Thauvan and Bernard stood from a distance and laughed out their hearts. I came out of the stream feeling really angry with the two and headed towards our direction. We got to old Glasgow town and joined the rest there. We all celebrated our victory of escape from our master. We thanked Bernard for his bravery and also Thauvan for getting us to join the rest.
We all parted ways. I cried when I said good bye to Bernard and to Thauvan who decided returning back to France.
Well as for me I stayed back in England. I got a job, but not as a slave. And from then on things started to change gradually.
