A:n// it's my first time legit writing, so, it might not be to good, but here!

I've decided that this story needs a lot of editing, my writings sort of improved since this book, and I'm sorry to anyone trying to read it, I won't change any plot details, so it will be easy to read while I'm editing, have a great day everyone <3

I stood still, aiming my knife right at the squirrel. I threw it and hit it, but I wasn't the only one who hit it. I paused, starring at the arrow lodged into the side of the squirrel, before stepping out into the little clearing it was in.

"Hello?" I muttered, clearly annoyed. A rough-looking man with a crossbow on his back slowly stepped into the clearing with me.

"Who the hell are you." He mumbled, almost disgusted.

"Riley." I said quietly. He shook his head and sighed in thought.

"Take it." He spat after a minute before retreating into the woods again.

"Wait!" I shouted, running after him as he stopped abruptly and spun around,

"You need it more than I do." Was all he said before turning and walking farther into the woods.

He was right, I did need it more.

It's been a while since I met that man. Everyday that I get to wake up now, it was because of him.
Because he gave me that squirrel, I lived.

But I could have died. I was starving.

I'll always be grateful, he could have killed me.

He could have done anything else, but he didn't.

Sometimes, to pass time and see what I can find, I go into the city. My journey always takes me passed the CDC. It's the quickest way from my small and lonely camp I made for myself. Every day it's quiet, and every day it's empty.
Today was different.
There was a few cars and  an RV parked outside. That's a big red flag.
I began to walk faster, hoping to get by before anyone saw me—if anyone saw me.
But of course, as if on cue, one of the big windows in the front of the building burst, and out jumped a small group of people. I was so distracted by what was going on in the CDC that I hadn't been paying a lick of attention to what was going on behind me. I felt something brush up against my back, I didn't have to turn around to know it was a walker. I suddenly lost interest in the people, and made a run for it. My foot caught on a root sticking up in the concrete, and I went down.
My head slammed onto the ground, and I slowly sat up, too dizzy to move.
"Get down! Andrea! Dale! Get down!"
I slowly turned and looked at the people, who were now ducking behind cars, and even inside them.
I turned the other way and saw an older man, and a young blonde woman running from the building.
I listened to their screams, though they weren't talking to me, and I ducked behind a short concrete wall.
A few seconds passed before I was thrown --and I mean thrown--  from the concrete wall a few feet forward.
Before I could even process what the hell was going on, everything had went black.
